To Celebrate 6 Years, Facebook Announces 400 Million Users And Releases New Products

-Birthday Cupcake Icon-As part of Facebook’s 6-year birthday celebration, the company has announced the crossing of the 400 million active user milestone this week, and that they will be releasing new products for users this evening. What those products are have not yet been clarified but with a new homepage being rolled out to users over the past few hours, we can speculate that the homepage may be part of the new product launches.

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, wrote in a blog post this evening:

So to celebrate six years of Facebook and the 400 million people on the service, we’re doing what we like doing most—building and launching products for people. Tonight we’ll host a celebration at Facebook headquarters, and we’ll release a handful of new things that will improve people’s Facebook experience, including a couple that people have requested a lot. We’ll post more details to our blog in a few hours.

That means you’ll have to sit at your computers in anticipation of the new product launches, or just check back in the morning if you are on the east coast!

  7. Looks ok I guess for now. Can't seem to be able to email/send a message though. It allows me to compose a message but where's the SEND button? Then I can't even close out of that box?? Is this a glitch?

  9. Change it back! I cant see any of my bookmarked applications, and when I want to change applications if I am in one already, I have to go to profile to see what applications are on the side. I do not want to see news feeds either!

  11. Love the whole face lift idea.. My Facebook account has been down since I woke up this morning around 7am. 5 hours of down time for a change that everyone is complaining about does not make sense to me.. but we will see. I am really sick of

  12. Well…I don’t like it. Bookmarks aren’t easily accessible any more – you have to be on your home page to click one. What the hell happened to the status updates feed? I really don’t want to see what friend has befriended who and who’s joined a certain group ~or~ the dreaded “John just had a barn raising in Farmville, help him celebrate!” – I changed this the last time!!! Don’t like the drop down menu to log out. And–well? The whole thing just sucks!

NO WARNING EITHER esp for your faithful consumers Im on every day and night And I hate change please bring back the seperate feed choices !!!!!!

  16. 400 million people is a major milestone. Facebook now has so much momentum that’s it hard to imagine another service rising up to steal its place.

With that power does come responsibility, though. I hope Facebook can manage to protect the rights of members while still promoting connectivity.

  17. okay…i used 2 be a HUGE myspace junkie…but i switched 2 facebook about 3 or 4 months ago…one of the main reasons why i switched was because facebook's homepage was easier 2 navigate and looked a lot cleaner…now the homepage looks just as cluttered as myspace…i wish facebook would give us the option of which style we would like 2 use….oh well…i'll eventually get used 2 the change…hopefully.
