Facebook Begins Rolling Out New Pages Design

Facebook has begun pushing out a new design of Pages to some users. Despite the site going down for many earlier today, some users found a new page design when things came back on.

The new design, which is pictured below, resembles the design of many other products including the new Facebook profile. This isn’t exactly surprising news for active page administrators, as Facebook has made it pretty well known that they would soon push out a new Page design which is consistent with the rest of the site. Overall, the design looks similar to Facebook Places, which some page administrators have already made the mistake of merging.

For those of you who haven’t merged your Facebook Page with a place yet, think twice before you do. Once you make the shift there is no turning back. While the new Pages design is not out for all users yet, we’re assuming that they will be visible to most users in the near future. We’ll reach out to Facebook to see if we can get some additional information about this change. What do you think of the new Pages design?

  2. I had my new page, new look, even created a poll question. Now it's gone back to original previous look.

  3. Love the new page layouts. Great change on Facebook's part.

  4. If they add the landingpage feature which was not rolled out during todays new push, it could be good.. The design seems cleaner.. but with all the glitches no wonder they went back on it

  5. Some of the new-new changes (that vanished a few hours later) that were new even to folks who had opted-in for the new profile a while ago?

    * Hitting 'enter' mid-comment posted the comment instead of inserting a carriage-return; it required Shift+Enter to start a new paragraph.

    * Going to someone's profile pictures album and clicking on one picture opened a light-box pop-up sort of thing, instead of just showing that one picture.

    * On the left column of a profile (with Wall, Info, Photos, Notes, etc..) there was Memories, that would give you a few random things the person had posted in a given year.

  6. All signs are pointing towards us Page admins losing the ability to set a Custom Landing Tab. This is going to be a big blow and I'm sure there will be many upset users. When I merged a page with it's matching Facebook Places page, it changed the layout to the "New" layout and we lost the ability to set the Default landing tab for non-fans. Not good.

  7. I had the new page design for a while. Now it's back to the old one. When I had the new design and clicked "login as page" I was notified that there were new fan posts and comments! The notification was at the top in red like the one on my personal profile. This would be great if page admins can see at a glance the new activity on the page.

  8. Check Facebook's twitter, they admit to an error that let people see changes that were not meant to be seen! I was lucky enough to be on FB while it was active, looked awesome!

  9. Ok, so how do I separate the page's wall posts from the users? You know, like we could do with the "old" pages?

Or, is this not gonna be available anymore?

    Thanks!

  10. Seeing my own status would be a nice thing. I no longer seem to have that option.

  11. Time to resize all the custom tab code again… I'm actually pleased with this, while the real-estate for developers is getting smaller, the user experience is much better. Now if only we could have the iframes!

  12. Why do they keep changing things? I don't like the new profile page at all.

  13. Simply WONDERFUL! It's what we, page admins, have been requesting for months: being notified when a fan likes a post or makes a comment of a photo. I had the pleasure of seeing this today, though only for a while, since after that FB went down for several minutes and then came back to its previous state. What matters now is that at any moment the new design will be implemented and interaction with fans will be as good as with friends… My congrats to the FB team!

  14. Is this going to be a mandatory change? Will all pages have to reflect this new layout?

    Comment by allisonmn — December 16, 2010 @ 5:45 pm

  15. The new lay-out sucks big time…the screen is more cluttered and you can't remove stuff you don't want to show, several buttons and functions are missing…plus it doesn't work like it should (lots of error messages and pages hanging)…

I really hope they allow users to create their own lay-out,or at least give options to remove stuff from your profile that you don't want to see everytime you visit…otherwise i think they gonna lose a lot of users…

Oh,and atm Facebook is completely down…

  16. I haven't merged my page and places yet. Why shouldn't I do it? Could you explain better?

    Comment by Sheila — December 16, 2010 @ 5:53 pm

  17. Not a fan. Makes navigation much less intuitive for those less familiar. Also impacts the ideal format of the page's picture. Taller images, which many have implemented, force the links (formerly tabs) down below the fold. Also, what about the landing page issue? Why force visitors to the wall? Overall bad for pages. New login is cool though.

  18. mine was switched without my approval, but it is now switched back! I'm happy about that.

  19. Why wouldn't you want to merge a Fan Page with a Place page?

  20. Well for about 10 minutes today I was in HEAVEN!!! I saw the coolest interface for the photos, the album opened as a pop out page if you clicked on it from the news feed, the albums have a black background that display the pictures bigger and cleaner, and the video when made full screen had incredible quality!! I am a photographer (Framing You creative photography: "like" me!) and this was HUGE. The videos I have are HD and looked sooo nice. Needless to say I was quite dissapointed a few minutes later when it all went away… :(

    Comment by Carina — December 17, 2010 @ 4:24 am

  24. Yes page tabs, the user featured in the pic isn't logged in.

  25. EXACTLY! It's what I say in my post….

    Comment by SANGP — December 17, 2010 @ 11:58 am

  26. I didn't get that much time to actually use the new look. So I can't really comment on its usability. But, I will trade the old look for being able to easily see feedback on my posts. As a photographer, having to tag myself in every single picture just to see if comments were left was very tedious. With the new page layout, I was actually notified of likes, which on the old layout likes were kind of useless because how would you know if you ended up having any without clicking on every single image uploaded.

  27. i hate the new layouts theyre shit! and i hate how theyve changed the way groups and events work etc. someone is blatantly working on the inside there trying to sabotage the site as we know it!
