Facebook Manners and You

Here’s an entertaining video about Facebook that a reader sent us yesterday afternoon. I figured it would be good entertainment for Friday!

Video of Today’s Facebook Pages and Homepage Announcement

Earlier today I recorded the Facebook webcast to post later. I’ve embedded the full feed below. It cuts in about a minute after it started and you’ll also notice that my inbox pops up a couple times. It was because I just learned how to use my new screen recording tool but the full audio is there up until they begin taking questions from the audience.

The Facebook Breastfeeding Debate Continues

Earlier this week we posted about Facebook’s ban on breast feeding. The debate has gained a lot of coverage in the media. So much that the CBS early morning show recorded the following segment on the topic. Included in the clip is a section where a group of women have joined together outside of Facebook’s Palo Alto offices, protesting about the breastfeeding policy. They have even put together a short jingle about the issue.

So which party has gone to far in this debate? According to Facebook, not all breastfeeding photos are banned, only those that have fully exposed breasts. Some of the women on the site continue to protest as they wish to have freedom of expression. Jeff Jarvis and the author of “Mama Knows Breast” were called into the early morning show to comment on the issue. You can watch the video below.

Envoye Special Report Examines the World of Facebook

This evening I spent the better half of an hour watching a French documentary about the growth of Facebook and the impact it’s having on the world. It’s one of the better documentaries that I have seen so far and it’s definitely worth watching. One thing that stood out to me during the documentary is that they continuously state that there are 150 million users on the site. According to Facebook, they have over 130 million users and based on their ad platform, there are over 133 million users.

New Girl Facebook Video

Somehow I missed this video from a month ago of some employees making changes to their co-worker’s Facebook profile. Also, it appears that this video is made by the same people that made the Flagpole Sitta video. The video is an entertaining look at what it’d be like if everytime you changed your Facebook profile, it actually affected your personality in real life. Check out the video below!

The Faceoff With Egypt On Facebook

While speaking at Web 2.0 Summit last week, Mark Zuckerberg briefly commented on Facebook being used to overthrow aggressive regimes. The audience chuckled at his comment but the reality is that Facebook has been the source of many protests around the world. Egypt is one place where protests are being staged and as the following documentary shows, Facebook is the center of these protests.

I highly recommend taking 24 minutes to watch the following documentary. It’s insightful and extremely powerful and it show how powerful Facebook has become for some. Ultimately, Facebook is effective at spreading freedom and democracy. The government has even gone so far as to publish propaganda in which individuals that were temporarily detained saying that they’ll never use Facebook again.

The video below includes interviews with the creators of the pages calling for protests against the government. It’s extremely powerful so check it out!

Chris Pirillo Entertains a Facebook Naysayer

Chris Pirillo posted a discussion of him and a viewer, Mona, who has been on Facebook for a long time. She is pretty angry about the new design. She’s also mad about some of the viral applications as well as a number of other things. Honestly, she goes on a long rant about the new Facebook. What’s really interesting is how long people can talk about Facebook in general.

Personally, I don’t think this is the end of Facebook but many of the discussion points are worthy ones.
