Poker Comes to Facebook

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

Poker applicationOne of the most popular forms of entertainment online is poker. As such you would imagine a Poker Facebook application to launch soon after Facebook opened up their development platform. RealDice.com is now one of the first to do it. I tried out the Poker application and it is pretty well made. The only downside of the application is how small the playable area is. The game is around 320 pixels wide, slightly larger than the image to the left. RealDice.com has other games as well but unfortunately you need to go to their site to play them. Small piece of advice: if you sit at a table with someone named “Bearcat” get up as fast as you can. He has won over 22,000 fake dollars today and is also the leading winner of the month. If you want to test your poker playing skills without risking real money, go grab the poker application.

Digg For Jokes

Wednesday, July 4th, 2007

LOL applicationDavid Gentzel and Sourabh Niyogi have made a pretty cool application which can be summed up as a Digg for jokes. As of now there are over 35,000 users that have added the application. There are a few features missing though currently such as best jokes of the hour, best jokes of the week, etc. Many of the jokes are pretty dumb so there needs to be an effective way of sorting out all the jokes. Rather than digg a joke, you “LOL” a joke and it gets added to your favorite jokes. You can also view the favorite jokes of your friends. To be honest I haven’t been able to find a joke yet that’s worthy of putting on this blog. If you find any good ones be sure to post them in the comments. If you want to have a good laugh, go grab the LOL application.

Share Pretty Flowers on Facebook

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

My GardenThis application is pretty catchy. If you want to send that special someone a flower to let them know that you care, or want to just let a friend know that you are thinking of them, this is a great way to bring cheer to anyone’s day. Also if your garden is looking a little empty, feel free to buy yourself a flower! As of now you are limited to the number of flowers you can send on a daily basis. This is to prevent people’s gardens from getting cluttered. I think this is a much cooler twist on the gift applications. Who doesn’t enjoy a free flower? Also, one of the best features of this application is how it is built in flash. I foresee a lot of similar applications that are reliant on flash to deliver custom designed pages based on user interaction. I had a few ideas myself, but I’ll spare you for the time being. If you want a garden on your profile or just want to brighten up someone’s day, go grab the My Garden application. Thanks to Greg Thomson (the developer) for making such a simple but useful application!

Yet Another Pointless Application

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

BeersI hate to keep handing out awards for dumb applications, but this one is pretty stupid. The Beers application, created by Break.com, allows you to show how many drinks you are currently consuming or consumed last night. It would be interesting if it kept a running tab of all the drinks that you have consumed, especially for those that are in college. Then at the end of their college career they can look back and view their Facebook profile which is filled with beer. I would surely have a few beers on my profile if that was the case. Chances are that I won’t be sitting in front of my computer on Facebook while consuming beers. For those that enjoy consuming beer while spending time on Facebook then this application is for you! Grab the Beers application to support your habit.

Your Virtual House on Facebook

Wednesday, June 27th, 2007

MyMiniLifeMyMiniLife, the highly popular widget that has been available on most of the other social networks, has just launched their Facebook widget. MyMiniLife is a flash based virtual world. Similar to SecondLife which allows you to purchase goods to place in your virtual home, MyMiniLife allows you to build your own properties (homes and parks) to place on your Facebook profile. You start off with $10,000 to purchase items such as furniture, electronics, lighting, and more. If you are looking for efficient transportation you can even buy your own helicopter. The only thing that I’ve purchased for my virtual home so far is a pretty nice plasma television. Next purchase is a computer so I can keep my blog running! If you want to have your own virtual house on your profile go grab the MyMiniLife application.

Make A Wish On Facebook

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Wishes AppAryeh Goldsmith is pumping out applications like it’s his job. This application is a quick and easy way to put wishes on your profile. You can also view what wishes other people are making. I guess the intention of this application is to make a wish and it’ll bring good luck? Some of the wishes that other people made include “I wish I knew what I really wanted,” and, “I wish I could walk through walls.” Nora MacDonald wishes that she “wasn’t so damn horny.” Ok so maybe all the wishes aren’t that proper, but what did you expect on Facebook? I have a feeling that this application isn’t going to be as big as the Matches application that I previously covered. Conversely it is not a bad application to add when your application portfolio already includes 6 other applications and each application is highly scalable. At this rate, Aryeh will have a pretty large portfolio of Facebook applications in a couple months. If you want to make a wish with other facebook users, go grab the Wishes application.

Calculate Your Popularity

Monday, June 25th, 2007

The Number screenshotOn the subject of “class differentiation” this application is sure to be a hit among the Facebook crowd, or should I say the hegemons. Landon Fowles has developed an application that assigns you a popularity number. You can then see where you stand in relation to the “In Crowd” and the “Freaks and Geeks.” If class distinction was already an issue, this application is sure to further it. My popularity score is 115.37588512766 (yes it is that exact) which ranked surprisingly fairly low. This number ranked surprisingly low among the 161 people that have added the application so far. If you want to see what your popularity score is, go check out The Number application. Feel free to show off your score in the comments. According to where I rank as of now it shouldn’t be too hard to beat me.

Because Chuck Norris Says So

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Chuck Norris Application ScreenshotChuck Norris once shot an enemy plane down with his finger, by yelling, “Bang!” You know he has to be one bad ass dude. If you like Chuck Norris jokes than this application is for you. My interesting fact for today was as follows: Inspired by the movie Alien vs. Predator, Chuck Norris has begun work on a screen play tentatively titled, “Alien, Predator, Frankenstein, Wolfman, The Mummy, and a Whole Shitload of Vampires vs. Chuck Norris.” Not a bad fact. I’m definitely going to have to check out that movie when it comes out. There are all sorts of interesting facts that I bet you didn’t know about Chuck Norris. If you want to read more of them go grab the Chuck Norris Facts application. If you don’t, you may have to explain it to Chuck Norris. Trust me … you don’t want to have to do that.

We’ve Got Spirit, Yes We Do!

Monday, June 25th, 2007

School SpiritMy good friends Gary and AJ Vaynerchuk have just launched a new application with the help of John Kassimatis. This application is sure to be a success. The school spirit game ranks schools by how many people within the school add the application. The more people that add the app, the higher your school spirit. The highly viral component of this application are the two tabs that allow you to invite your friends to increase your school spirit. Also, if your friends aren’t at the same school you can invite them to the application and invite them so that you can talk trash to them. Bottom line, I’m betting on this application to catch on pretty quickly. If you want to represent for your school go grab the School Spirit Game.

Award for Dumbest App

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

Apparel ScreenshotIn order to keep this blog fresh, I browse through all the appliciatons on Facebook to find the best ones. Occasionally I come across one application that stands out from the rest because it is so ridiculous. This week’s award for dumbest application goes to the Apparel application. The application that was created by Zack Coburn allows users to put a big picture of their face on a t-shirt. This may actually be so dumb that it is catchy. It would be pretty funny to be walking down the street with a picture of yourself plastered across your shirt. Do you think this will become a trend? Perhaps we can start the trend on this blog by purchasing shirts of ourselves! If you want to join the new trend that is starting now, go grab the Apparel application and buy a shirt that features your face on it.
