39 Percent Of Facebook Users In U.S., U.K., And Australia Donate To Haiti

A whopping 39 percent of Facebook users in the U.S., U.K., and Australia have already donated money or goods to the relief efforts in Haiti according to a joint survey between Facebook and Nielsen. The vast majority of these users, approximately 32 percent, have donated money, whereas 3 percent have donated goods. Approximately 3 percent have donated both goods and money.

Another 21 percent of users plan to donate money, meaning 60 percent of users have or plan to donate goods or money to the Haiti cause. Where this money is going differs and how the money was raised also differs. In the U.S., 23 percent of donations came through text-messaging, evenly split between adults and teens. We’ve posted the full results of the survey below.

One other interesting finding by the survey was that, “Facebook users ages 50 and older are nearly twice as likely to have donated goods or money than teenagers”. Also, “46 percent of female users have given compared to 32 percent of males”.

Update
I forgot to mention that tonight’s “Hope for Haiti Now” benefit show will be streamed live on Facebook’s Global Disaster Relief page at 8:00 PM EST.

  1. Wow, that is a staggering percentage. 13% via text message is also a pretty high number in my opinion, I wasn't sure how skeptical people would be of text donations but it seems that they are quite effective for organizations like the Red Cross.
