Update: We’ve posted an article on how to fix most of the problems which you can find here.
In a particularly strange move, it appears that Facebook has killed off what was previously a “News Feed” story settings page. The feature enabled users to pre-select those actions that they made on Facebook which would automatically generate feed stories. For example, if you changed your relationship status, a news story would automatically be generated, stating that your relationship status had changed. It was an emphasis of our original Facebook privacy guide, and it’s behind the “Post-Breakup Facebook Effect” which we wrote about earlier this week.
I’ve reached out to Facebook for clarification on this change and am currently awaiting a response. The question is whether or not Facebook has just killed relationship stories all together, or if they simply follow the privacy settings specified in your profile privacy settings area. For those that are confused by the change, let me walk through a sample scenario:
First, you change your relationship status from “In Relationship” to “Single”. Following the change, a feed story is generated which is then published for all your friends to see. Had you disabled “Relationship stories” previously, no story would have been generated. Now, it’s not exactly clear what happens.
Within applications, users are prompted as to whether or not they’d like to post a story about the action they just took. For example, if you get a new high score on Bejeweled Blitz, you will be prompted to post that score to your feed. For all features that are built into Facebook, you aren’t prompted when a story is created. Instead, it automatically generates the story based on what you had previously set in your “Feed Settings”.
Unfortunately there’s no way to specify what actions you’d like to have create stories now. At this point, it’s unknown what the default settings are for publishing stories. I’m currently awaiting clarification from Facebook as to how this is supposed to function.

Strange, I hadn’t noticed this but upon checking right now I don’t see those settings anymore.
Not really disconcerting, I’m sure they’ll be back momentarily in some form or another.
Hey Nick,
That was my first thought too, and I was quite enraged, but they just moved it.
If you go into Settings - account - Facebook Ads tab, there is a “Show my social actions” box.
I find it very ignorant that they turned this off by default. I mean, i realize that helps things grow virally, but .. well, you made the point.
Lame. I thought they were changing the settings to INCREASE privacy. I’m most concerned about “wall posts”… I don’t see why anyone would want what they write on other people’s walls to show up in the news feed. Please keep us posted on this.
I was wondering about this too.. I dont want some of these feeds spreading out to my friends I’ve had them turned off for some time.. awaiting on you to get clarification from Facebook as to how this is supposed to function.
hmmm interesting…I am also wondering why…
Derek, unfortunately that only concerns FB ads not the news feed.
hello, maybe one of you guys could also explain to me why my fanbox on my websites aren’t being updated with the latest post.
thnx in advance
Ideally, any changes made to your profile will prompt you to create a feed entry.
Sometimes I don’t mind if an action is reported, other times, I don’t need the extra attention. Yes, it may be an extra click for the user, but I think it adds a better level of control; allowing them to publish on an action-by-action basis, rather than always “Yes” or always “No”
I’m glad you posted this… logged on to the blog with this very question. I first noticed a problem last night when information such as “Eleni likes so-and-so’s status” started to show up on my Wall. I usually do not have this appear and when I double-checked my settings last night, it was still clicked off but thought maybe it was just a temporary glitch.
Well, the “error” (info about me liking status– still posting to my Wall) continued today and when I went back to my settings is when I noticed the entire page was removed. I had clicked off every option (no relationship status change, no liking of status, etc) so if this is not returned, I would be inclined to never use the “like” button again. Oh well.
Oh, the “show social actions” tab just refers to the Ads. As far as I can tell, it does not alter the settings for changes in relationships and other info many of us would like to keep off the Wall.
The “Recent Activity” news feeds was the first change I noticed with the new privacy changes taking place this week. I previously had all the types of auto-posts disabled, and now I no longer have the option.
I DO NOT want a feed posted to my profile each time I comment on a friend’s status, photo, activity, “like” something, change my relationship, or anything else.
I thought these new changes were supposed to increase our control over our own information?? And yet it seems like the exact opposite is happening.
I’ve been wondering about this as well, and there are others within Facebook Help who are asking similar questions.
Definitely appreciate any clarification once it’s been received. Thanks Nick.
This latest round of changes is a train wreck.
1) It is obviously an attempt by FB to get more content published to the public stream, under the guise of being a security update. Defaulting to “Everyone”? Lame.
2) Some security options were taken away. People are very justified in being annoyed/concerned that their fan pages are shown to the world with no way to hide them.
3) Similarly, everyone can see my friends list with no way to hide it.
It’s hard to believe that one of the biggest sites on the web can’t seem to do simple things very well. They tested this new security thing for how long, and didn’t address these issues?
Facebook became the king of the web purely because it reached a critical mass and was the only real option if you wanted to connect to people. Unfortunately, its coding is sub-par, its design skills are lacking, it’s slow, it breaks randomly, features change randomly, users are confused, and basic enhancements trickle out a few times a year.
I just wish they would let Google buy them so a company with real vision could do something with the data and userbase that now exists.
Our so many apps are down, any idea what is a reason? Seems facebook are doing some stuff with there APIs?
i have really got fed up with facebook, imagine my shock when i went to post a comment to my girlfriends wall only to find it visible to all in the world on the live news feed, i have just spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to stop this from happening! its the same with a group wall that i belong to, the group is a private group and yet now as an admin when i go to post a comment it is being shown also on te live feed. Is it me just being stupid and not knowing where to make this type of ’sharing’ private? or is this a deleiberate ploy by facebook?? one thing is for sure, if the latter is the case due to thei so called new ‘privacy settings’ then i am going to completely remove my facebook account and use yahoo or some other chat facility.. then my new actions will be to form a web site called something like KILL OFF FACEBOOK
“If you go into Settings - account - Facebook Ads tab, there is a “Show my social actions” box.”
Derek - This only applies to news feed posts generated by becoming a fan. Nick is referring to the settings that determine if news feed posts are generated by various activities such as commenting on a photo.
Matt - you can hide your friends list. Go to the list in your profile page, click the edit button, and unclick “Show my friends on my profile”.
There does not seem to be a way to hide the other new slide of public information, pages of which you are a fan.
The fact is, Facebook is making changes that benefit Facebook - primarily, changes that will increase traffic on the site. User preferences are a consideration but clearly not FB’s primary motivation.
I hate that everytime I ‘like’ something its shows up on my profile now…its so annnoying…so much for privacy!!! How do I make sure its not posted back to my profile???
I removed by profile pic yesterday as I don’t feel safe sharing it with the whole world. I had been looking forward to the “new privacy settings” since July, too bad this is such a disappointment.
How exactly does this recent change “encourage” users to share more again?
It is actually quite clear. Before yesterday, I had all those boxes unchecked. Which means NOTHING got posted to my profile. Today I glanced at my profile (thank goodness), and there were a bunch of “you liked personX’s status.” I spent some time removing stuff. It’s not that I’m hiding things, but no one cares or needs to know that I thumbed a status of someone they’ve never met. I really hope more people raise a stink, because if they don’t FB will have no reason to modify the changes.
Thanks for taking this up with them. This was the first thing I checked after the changes, and I was shocked these settings were gone. Some of these actions definitely still create news feed stories, and it is unconscionable that they would strip away our ability to control the kinds of actions we announce to our entire friends list.
Frankly this whole privacy settings change is starting to look more and more like shenanigans. It is very hard to swallow their claims that this is not about “nudging” people toward sharing more when virtually all of the changes they have implemented do exactly that. The whole reason I joined Facebook was because it was a “walled garden” kind of environment. This is a fundamental paradigm shift away from that.
I’m also looking to stop what I post on other people’s walls being broadcast on my live feed. Do they want us to resort to “message” - maybe I’ll just use email instead.
In addition to friend list and page list visibility as well as this - what about applications posting to the stream? There’s only either publish or not and I have no idea who’s seeing those stories? Are apps using my default publisher privacy? Are they publishing for “everyone”? I have no idea. And apps should really have the option to limit posting stories to a particular friend or friend list? Case in point: I click publish here and fb asks if I want to put this on my wall - but for whom? There’s no way at all to determine who sees the post if I decide to share it. Not good. Not good at all.
“Unfortunately, its coding is sub-par, its design skills are lacking, it’s slow, it breaks randomly, features change randomly, users are confused, and basic enhancements trickle out a few times a year.”
Well, I think the backend is pretty well done. Not that Google isn’t done well either, though. The front-end… I reckon that really comes down to philosophy.
It’s a change a minute up in here.
I honestly wish the feature set would chill out and mature for a little bit.
I also agree with the people here, and another view on the perspective:
http://www.facebakers.com/blog/16-wrong-direction-facebook-pushes-users-to-open-profiles/
Hi,
Possibly connected problem (unless you like coincidences) is that the “Edit Settings” feature within any newly created “Groups” fails to retain/save changes. Consequently one cannot add photos/videos/discussions etc to the Group page wall/tabs.
There’s a few help threads discussing this - biggest one is:
http://www.facebook.com/help/question.php?id=279518
And a number of us have joined a nicely ironic group to discuss the issue:
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=191670166523
FB support appear to be Missing in Action - with no acknowledgement of the problem - let alone a suggested time to fix.
*Note - I emailed this site about this earlier today (via tips email id - no response as yet)
just use facebook as u normally do and see what stories show up on ur page.
This was the very first thing I noticed that was different. I personally care not to have every move I make on FB posted up for everyone to see. Posting a commment on someone’s story, or “liking” someone’s story is no one else’s business, even if that person is a friend of mine. It’s my business and mine alone. I emailed FB about this. I hope to get some sort of answer regarding this, but I’m not holding my breath. I’ll just limit my activity down to a bare minimum instead.
I just noticed the same issue as the other posters. I had my comments disabled from my profile, so no one could see when i posted on a friends profile.
I noticed likes appearing on it in the last few days and when i went to find the option to disable it, couldnt fint it and that then lead me to this blog post.
This is either a bug or an outrageous invasion of privacy.
This is what I’m understanding about this change. They have merged all the settings into the Settings > Privacy Settings > Profile Information. For example instead of restricting a news to be published about your relationship you can now say only you can see this information on your profile and since no one can see it, when you update it no one will see the information in the news feeds. That makes sense. This section has grown a lot and if you notice even who can see when you’re tagged on photos and videos is this section as well and this use to be in that other section.
yeah. i don’t like it that if i “like” something, everyone has to know…. how do i fix that?
I wonder if it retains some settings from what you had before, even if you can’t access/modify them, because “you and xxx” are now friends still doesn’t appear in my feed.
The problem is that all the settings that used to be in the “Wall and News Feed” section are now locked in place. I used to have it set so that my relationship status would NOT be published as a wall post. Now I want to change that and allow it to be published, but there is no way to do so.
I noticed that option has disappeared too. I just got done sending an email to FB. Here is my email:
Hello FB team,
I am concerned about the removal of my control over “News feed and Wall”
privacy setting. I strongly believe that users should have the right to
decide what goes on the wall and on the facebook news feed regarding them.
Suppose I went from being in a relationship to being single. I should have
the right to decide whether to make that public or not, NOT Facebook.
I have been checking different blogs regarding this issue and there has
been a lot of comment on this issue of removal of this thing. I am sure
that you guys are also keeping track of this.
I hope you will take this issue seriously, reverse the decision and avoid
this being a bad PR for your website.
Regular Facebook user
Facebook refers to your activities on ur wall “ads”, so to change what is allowed on your “ads” you may want to check out Settings, Privacy Settings, then click on “Facebook Ads”, and from there you can change to no one, mean no more wall non sense.
Cynthia, that doesn’t explain why suddenly leaving comments on people’s posts, writing on their wall, or using the “like” button suddenly appears in my news stream. I will be waiting with interest to see how facebook replies. As it is now, I won’t use it for anything except sending private messages. I used to have all these settings turned *off*. Like another commenter, spent all morning deleting items from my newstream.
No love, Facebook. I am 99% driven away right now.
Cynthia - As I understand it, if you set, say, relationships to be visible by “only me”, no one will see the change (that’s correct), but the field itself is also no longer visible to anyone. ie, no one can see whether you’re single, or whatever. If that’s the case then there’s no point in even having the option since no one in the world sees this!
The point is people want to keep the field, just be able to say whether others see when it’s updated or not.
I am upset that all of my activity is now on my wall. I can no longer filter what shows up. All my comments, likes, link postings are now there for everyone to see. I hate that. I do not want my activity to be available to everyone. There is less control, not more with this new policy.
Cynthia Medina … it seems that you dont get the point here and for your information all those options under Privacy Settings > Profile information were already available BEFORE the new privacy changes in case you didnt notice till now
if anyone finds out how to not have the “like’s” on my profile page, please let me know, theyre driving me nuts! thanks for the info so far!!
Check out the privacy applications/website and uncheck all of those. You then give no permission for anyone to see or use your information in applications. Not sure if it affects newsfeeds but it’s worth a sort.
i need this fucking page back to privacy page!!!
i need it immediately…so badly!!!
>_______<
pls fix it asap!!!
Ditto for me - I really want to get back to how I can prevent my “Likes” from showing up on my profile Wall. It’s driving me nuts as well! It was possible to hide them before the most recent Privacy settings system changes.
anyone know, when the feature is coming back?
At this point, no one knows if it’s going to come back AT ALL. And this sucks. I usually comment on people’s stuff 2 or 3 in the morning now, so that I can erase the newsfeed notifications immediately, and have as little people as possible see it. I’m losing some insane sleep here.
In the FB help forum, I read that removing your newsfeed actions from your page doesn’t mean that it’s been removed from your friends’ walls. This is insane. I’ve already written to FB, and no response, of course. Looks like I’m gonna have to do a lil’ investigatin’ myself. ::sighs::
Looking forward to updated news on this story in particular more than any other on here. Help please! Thanks! Have already written to Facebook too.
For those who think going to: Settings > Account Settings > Facebook ads > Show my social actions in Facebook Ads to … and changing the settings to ‘no one’ works, I’ve got news for you, in my experience, it doesn’t!
And by the way, Re: For those who think going to: Settings > Account Settings > Facebook ads > Show my social actions in Facebook Ads to … and changing the settings to ‘no one’ works - even if it did work, that’s not the settings control we had before, or what I was looking for either!
The good thing is is that you can hide entire “wall” tab to specific friends you choose so they cant see anything.
I am WAY more annoyed that every time I click *like* on a photo, my wall reports such. I have to manually clean my wall all the time now, whereas before I just had it set so it would not post such mundane things.
I have a hard time believing this is an unintentional move on the part of FB. And I am totally annoyed–which means a lot, because I am pretty easy going about my privacy and have a liberal policy of friend-adding. I just don’t want my wall all cluttered up with nonsense. I sent in my complaint.
I’ve just deleted all my fan pages as I don’t want non - friends seeing these. It’s a shame as I enjoyed getting these through my newsfeed. I hope FB sort this out!
we need this feature back!!
Yeah it’s really weird how for some people the settings all got defaulted, but for others they are the original settings they had. It’s pretty annoying deleting each story off my wall, hopefully they have an answer soon.
The only way to get attention to this horrible privacy breach with facebook is to contact the news - start sending “news tip” messages to ALL the local news outlets - CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc.. etc…
If facebook continues to ignore us, we’ll just run their reputation into the ground.
The “like” stories, relationship updates, and comments on photos, status, etc. not only show up on my wall, but in ALL my friends’ newsfeeds! This is more disturbing than the visible friends box, in my opinion.
This is obnoxious. I don’t know that using Facebook is really worth it if they’re just using us. I submitted a “suggestion” to bring back the feature where we were able to suppress this stuff. I hope they care.
I hate to delete my account but I’m seriously considering deactivating it. The Gawker guy is probably right: http://bit.ly/8Wf6XF
gotta agree with Miranda…its scary
any updates new updates?
Very annoying. I’d like to change my settings so that people can see more of my activity, as I set it all news feeds to ‘Don’t show’, like friends who have added me etc. Now I can’t change it. I’m more fortunate than some who are having far more of their activity seen than what they’d like, but it’s still frustrating. I realise Facebook sent out the privacy changes letter for all to read, however if they are going to remove a funtion that is so fundamentally important to the very privacy that Facebook is trying to protect, then why not state in big bold letters in a seperate letter - Please set your Wall and News Feed privacy to what you wish it to always be as from this date you will have to stick with what you’ve set.
I hope they re-initialize the function, if only temporarily to give people a chance to change them to what they would prefer, as some users have had their settings put back to the facebook default and had no say in the matter.
Miranda, I agree this is even more disturbing. I’m not going to click ‘like’ or comment on anything from now on. Well done Facebook for forcing us to reduce our activity on the site!
I agree with many of the posters here. I’m glad I found this article because I wondered what had happened to that privacy setting. I really don’t need every “like” or comment I make broadcast on my wall! So it seems I won’t use that function until Facebook restores that option. Why was it eliminated in the first place. Nick, I hope you get a response.
I’m having the issue with all of my “likes” showing up on my page. I remember Facebook specifically had the option to disable this feature, but there currently isn’t any way to change this. The dumb thing is if you go to the Help Center FAQ, they still have listed click on the “News Feed and Wall” link to adjust your Wall Privacy settings. All of the information on their site is all over the place and not useful. This sucks…
Having the same issue with all my likes, comments, and other spam showing up on my profile dispite taking the time to uncheck all those boxes previously.
Facebook: If I wanted that crap posting, I wouldn’t have unchecked it. I don’t appreciate you deleting all those settings without giving us some other way to control what posts to our wall. Please fix this.
I have no idea what is going on with facebook these days.
They just don’t stop changing things, and now I don’t know where to even find anything. I don’t know how to control my profile privacy settings, my friends can now see when I break up with my boyfriend. My wall posts just disappear sometimes.
It’s just so frustrating. Where did everything go? Please sort this garbage out.
(p.s I heard notifications will be done away with as well? )
8 days later and this still isn’t fixed? Morons.
THIS IS CRAP. I only had my “like” button clicked before the changes came about!! so now ALL that shows up on my page is when I like someone’s activity!!!! GRRR.
Has anyone tried to manually type in or paste the old “News Feed and Wall” url that use to be on the Privacy Settings page into your browser yet to see what happens? I’ve been trying to find out what the old url was but am having no luck. Hopefully the old link to “News Feed and Wall” might still allow you to change your “News Feed and Wall” settings even though the link isn’t readily available on the Privacy Settings page. Has anyone tried this yet?
upsetting! No problem making changes but tell the users FIRST so they can make appropriate decisions fit for them! Please advise as to whether this is going to be looked into or not!
Ugh this is frustrating
Fb used to be private, which is one of the things I liked about it. Now the whole world can see when I like a status, when I become friends with someone, when I do this, that, etc. My every move is tracked and published!
It seems like the settings I had before (do not show when commenting on someone else’s wall and do not show when commenting on a status update)are still working…but now there is no way to change it back…I’m so confused!!!
i intentionally had wall posts and several other things turned off for very good reasons. good thing i broke up with that boyfriend before this happened. no hiding now, right? ha
Any updates, here? Or is FB sticking to this BS policy?
If they don’t bring back the news feed and wall settings I am going to delete my account.
I’ve deactivated my account and I won’t reactivate it until the privacy settings are brought back, if this ever happens. It’s a shame as it was good fun and I wish Facebook hadn’t spoilt it, but it’s not fun if all my recent activity is tracked and I have no control over fan pages and friends list visibility.
You can achieve part of this privacy settings by going into Specific List’s Wall –> Update Status –> and pick Specific Person –> enter the name of the list. This prevents other Lists to see the wall info.
Maybe this a fluke, but it doesn’t seem to be posting that crap as of this evening.
AP i tried the URL and it dosn’t work any more.
This is completely ridiculous. I don’t want what I write on other peoples’ walls showing up in the news/live feed.
I’m addicted to Facebook but I will deactivate my account if we don’t get these privacy settings back.
a) The ‘facebook adds’ setting under ‘my account’ -> ‘Facebook ads’ has only to do withh controlling the facebook ads that appear on the right hand side of your screen. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FACEBOOK.
b) when you create a status update you can control who sees your status update by selecting the specific person.
c) if you click on ‘like’ make a comment etc it will appear on the newsfeed page.
d) In ‘privacy settings’ -> ‘posts by me’ even if you click on only me it does not change any settings in newsfeed.
IN other words users cannot control what appears in the newsfeed.
I am so dissapointed that, I am considering quiting facebook. I agree with Vanessa
I just realized this and gotta say that facebook must be out of their minds to remove these settings!
I have created a fan page to help drive this movement and make a difference, if we all get together and voice our opinion, maybe we can bring it back!
http://www.facebook.com/privacy/?view=feeds
This was the old link for changing the news feed and wall settings but it is no longer working.
Not only did they remove the settings page, but it appears that today Facebook changed the default settings for some of this feed info. Now any friend that I add is automatically showing up on my profile and in my friend’s walls! We need an update AllFacebook!
I’m glad I found this blog, I was going nuts trying to figure out why all the sudden all these stories were being published when I had turned them all off. I’m sharing this in facebook for my friends to see.
If someone hears back or figures out a way to disable please post here.
Thanks.
Mark Zuckerberg doesn’t want ANYONE TO HAVE ANY PRIVACY ON HIS FACEBOOK WEBSITE!!!!!!!!! Mark does NOT believe that ANYONE SHOULD BE PRIVATE ON HIS FACEBOOK!!!!! Simple as that!!!!
IM PISSED OFF! i wrote something on my friends wall and it showed up on the newsfeed! im tired of deleting my “like” posts on my wall to let the whole world what i like and what i comment on. this isnt cool. f u facebook.
I DO NOT want a feed posted to my profile each time I comment on a friend’s status, photo, activity, “like” something, change my relationship, or anything else.
+1 on Angel’s post
Facebook didn’t make anyone happy by doing this. Some people don’t care about the option being gone and others are pissed off! I am also very pissed off, and why did they do this is beyond me.
I wonder if anyone at Facebook is paying any attention to what people are saying about the new privacy settings? There are several groups about this on FB and the help discussions are full of comments from people who aren’t happy too. Surely they should be listening to what their users are saying?
After a couple weeks where comments/likes weren’t showing up on my wall, now suddenly they are. So much for just retaining the status quo I had before.
I hate it!!!
I’m am SO pissed at facebook right now.
This just started happening to me today and i’ve spent HOURS trying to figure out how to change it back so that no one can see my wall posts to friends. I am beyond pissed about this. Facebook better change it back.
This is very frustrating. There are some comments that I don’t want people to see, beside the person I am commenting. I hope they fix newsfeed option.
I am very upset that my activity is now in the news feed without my permission…and my activity is showing up on my wall. I want this taken OFFF!!!!!!!!!!
I submitted a “support” request (quotation marks because I hardly consider what they do should could as support), and they asked for a screenshot.
And as others have reported their “Help Center” (more quotation marks needed) still lists instructions for settings that are no longer there.
A$$hats.
I seriously can’t control what’s put on news feed?
I just spent sometime googling, and this was the only thing that popped up…
This is still in their FAQ section-
If I post content or comment on a Page, will a story about it appear on my Wall or News Feed?
When you become a fan of the Page, a story will be published on your Wall. When you become a fan of the Page, a story will be published on your Wall and may be published in your friends’ News Feeds. Any action that you take on a Page will abide by the privacy settings you currently have set for News Feed and Wall. You can adjust these settings at any time by visiting the News Feed and Wall section of your Privacy Settings page.
The previous privacy settings were a little difficult to configure but definitely a positive feature of the site. If you dug around a little bit you had the flexibility to control exactly what info you wanted published to your wall.
Now it appears Facebook has dumbed it down? That’s fine, but there are certain actions that I prefer to keep private.
Not sure why they changed their approach on this but I hope they listen and put things back to the way they were.
i noticed because i had my news feed settings altered because it was so annoying having every little detail posted. last night i logged on and all of those pesky news feeds were back on my wall and i have been trying to change them back for 2 days.
FACEBOOK PLEASE KEEP THINGS NICE AND SIMPLE. PEOPLE LIKE THINGS THE WAY IT USED TO BE.
Join this Facebook Group “Bring back News Feed and Walls privacy settings” created by Maggie Ds. Please invite all your friends, and ask them to do the same. If anyone here can get the group noticed on a media stage, please do so.

Either facebook should allow us privacy over our contributions to other people’s profiles again, or place the ‘padlock’ function on every information box. We appreciate Facebook’s ongoing efforts to keep our information private, I’m just not sure why this function had to be removed in order to do so.
Please if anyone can tell me how not to spread informations on my friends newsfeed page when i post a comment on a photo of someone .. example when i post a comment on my friend john’s photo my other friend mike can see the comment on his newsfeed and i dont want this!!!!!!!!!! please help. thank u on advance ..
Just noticed this today under Privacy –> Update to settings (which, for no good reason, but ironically, is where you get to from Security –> Privacy –> Bugs and Known Problems):
Information about Recent Activity
Whether we display a story on your profile is now controlled by the privacy of the content itself. For example, only people who can see both your Wall, and the Wall to which you posted would be able to see a story about you writing on a friend’s Wall. If you want to remove a particular story that currently shows up, simply click the “Remove” button that appears to the right of the story after you move your mouse over it.
Guess Facebook’s answer to all of us is to go *** ourselves.
I don’t want my wall post to someone plastered all over the news feed for everyone to read! If I wanted everyone to know, I would take out an ad in the New York Times!
Im glad I found this site and comments. I did not understand where the newsfeed/wall privacy control went? I figured it had to be moved not REMOVED!!
I agree with everyone on here. Reading that this forces us to show more activity for the benefit of facebook?
If it is not returned…I needed a good reason to stop my facebook usage.
NOW I HAVE ONE!
If this is not changed back to the way it was before, I will certainly be deleting my account.
Yet more discoveries: I just found that Recent Activity from years ago–that at the time was never on my Wall–now does appear there if I go back far enough. This behavior really does represent a whole new level of breach of privacy–information that was never previously displayed and should have been lost years ago now shows up without a user’s knowledge, let alone approval. Unacceptable.
Any SOLUTIONS yet? That’s all I need to know. Just solutions to FIX IT.
I keep checking back for an answer — I keep forgetting that every time I comment on someone’s status it flows into the News Feed for all my friends — super distasteful. Keep hoping for an answer soon.
all that is just crazy. I’m not using facebook anymore till they change this crap
Merry Christmas to everyone by the way
Hi.. i was wondering if anyone knew if the page were you can choose what is posted to your wall, for example.. friends added, photos commented on and status liked will be back ? im talking about the settings which are shown at the top of this page with the letters GONE wrote over the top of it.
Hope someone can help. Cheers & Merry Chrismas, Paul
I just realized something. When the privacy changes first came about, none of my activity (wall posts, likes, photo comments) was showing up on my wall, which is why I never noticed before. Now, EVERYTHING I do shows up on my wall. I wonder what happened in the two weeks since they changed the Fbook privacy settings that now, whenever I post on someone’s wall, all my friends can simultaneously see what I have written? It sucks because I understand they can only see this information if they are friends with both me and the recipient of the wall post, but most of them would have never gone to that person’s profile to begin with (and thus seen what I had written). Now, regardless if they frequented that person’s wall, they can see when and what I have posted. IT SUCKS. I just found that new piece of information fascinating.
Actually, I think I figured it out. When the new changes came about, I was too lazy to update my privacy settings so I had left it alone/chosen old settings. Within the past couple of days I actually took the time to survey the privacy settings and choose whom I wanted to see what, and that’s when EVERYTHING started showing up. I wish I had just left it to my old settings and not tried to update my privacy settings…
Ok, I saw this written on the Privacy page:
Whether we display a story on your profile is now controlled by the privacy of the content itself. For example, only people who can see both your Wall, and the Wall to which you posted would be able to see a story about you writing on a friend’s Wall. If you want to remove a particular story that currently shows up, simply click the “Remove” button that appears to the right of the story after you move your mouse over it. Learn more about privacy here.
The problem is… I DONT HAVE A REMOVE BUTTON!! Even if I wanted to remove every post one by one, I cant. I might stop posting on people’s profiles all together now… Thanks FB! :/
yes well done facebook you are shit. why cant they get it right? they keep changing it for the worse.
For those of you who doesn’t want your comment on friend’s wall goes straight to news feed, this may work :
Before Commenting on friend’s wall, click the filter icon ( under share button). Chose “only share this to X” instead of ” share this to X and friends” . I hope this help, I’ve been pulling my hair out for the last 2 hours trying to find a way to do this simple thing
Happy holidays all
I’m upset by the change and just don’t get why facebook would do that!
Anyway- if you share my view plz take the time to submit a complaint directly to facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fhelp%2Fcontact.php%3Fshow_form%3Dui_privacy&h=30ab286c174755e6c6a0b316e0ac8938
This is a real dick move, Facebook.
I want the old settings back!! I’m tired of deleting everything on my wall! I don’t want it show every time I “like” a post! If anyone finds a solution PLEASE post it!!!!!
Everyone on this page and every fan page you know of, Go here http://www.facebook.com/help/#/help/contact.php?show_form=ui_privacy and make a suggestion to them that you DO NOT WANT EVERYTHING YOU DO TO BE POSTED IN THE NEWS FEED!! Do this EVERY HOUR on the HOUR… that’s what i’ve been having everyone do… if they get a million suggestions a day, who knows… maybe we can get our settings back…
I’m so pissed about this… being tracked like an animal… grrr
Thanks to all who participate…
Please stop just posting complaints saying what has already been said. Spent too long going down reading for any helpful information only to keep seeing I’m mad that… So can we stick to helpful posts if theres anyword of the change back. or if someone figures it out. we all know whats wrong. thanks guys
It says this is how you can make it so people do not see your posts on their home page, but it seems like it would make it that no one would even see the post if they were on their page like it was as if you never posted it only that one person can see it.
http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=408#/help/?faq=15358

It says in privacy> profile info
I’ve been deleting all of “clutter” stories myself manually but it is very annoying. I’m wondering if there’s an app of some kind that you can set to go in and delete them for you automatically?
Fuck you Facebook.
Zuckerberg keeps fucking around, I don’t know what the motherfucker and his IT wankers are up to.
I cant believe this - is there absolutely no way to change news feed settings? Less privacy now - complete opposite of what they were supposed to do!
The new security settings are ridiculous. I want MORE control not LESS. Not cool.
fb sucks, our privacy was stolen!
Well this is what you get from a media-mogul/dinosaur like ted turner, remember that now we all belong to Rupert Murdoch, cheers!!
Even to reply to this facebook asks to connect all your info over - so damn annoying that all my comments on peoples walls go to everyone!
All of my friends can see my status updates and view my wall, including my likes and whom I’ve befriended, but not my application posts (jobs in Mafia Wars, lost animals in Farmville, etc).
I can see them on my wall and in my news feed, but no one else can.
When friends visit my wall, they can see what others have posted to it, as well as my status, likes, etc. But not the stuff that I have specifically asked to be posted. If I view my account as someone else (in the privacy settings) I can’t see them either.
Facebook’s solution to my inquiry, was to send me a link to this post, saying my question had been answered. ?
I hate to cut my nose off just to spite my face by deactivating my account and losing contact with all of my friends… surely there has to be a better solution.
I’ve never hoped on any “I hate the new facebook layout” bandwagons, but once they start screwing around with security updates for their own need, I’m out. I’m pulling all my fan pages, status’, and using Facebook solely as an email platform.
So all my wall-posts to any of my friends shows up in ALL of my friends news feeds? Why would I want to have that one single message show up in ALL of my friends news feeds? Take the whole point of a wall-post away. Looks like it’s PM’s or nothing from here on out.
Keep on screwing it up FB!
I am very troubled and uncomfortable with the absence of this particular Privacy setting. Why does my entire friend list need to know who I be-friended, what I commented on, whether it’s a photo, a note, or a link!!! I have STOPPED all my comments etc until this setting is brought back to Facebook. Can someone please get in touch with Facebook Team and tell them we need this “News Feed” story Privacy settings page BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK PRONTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
I just spent hours trying to make sure that every one of my social actions (e.g. posting on other people’s walls) stays off of my friends’ newsfeeds. Since the ENTIRE News Feed and Story settings panel was GONE, I started to worry about my privacy. But I think I may have figured out why my social actions kept showing up on other people’s newsfeeds: my iPhone setting (on my Facebook account) for posting “one-line” updates on my wall and newsfeeds was enabled. I had to go to application settings and uncheck that box along with the box that signs me into chat everytime I am on my FB app on my iPhone. This may be an issue some of you have been trying to resolve if you have an iPhone. If so, I hope what I said helps!
well this is going to be terrible for jealous ex’s to see exactly who their ex is befriending, whose wall they’re writing on after a breakup, etc. not going to be good news.
Derek Pangallo…this has nothing to do with this article! Dude…get a clue. And, I am very upset that I can no longer post things on ppl’s walls without everyone knowing about. This is BULLSHIT! I don’t want ppl commenting on post’s that I make to friends…there is NO privacy here. Come on Facebook, get it together!
Anne…this helps no one. Your “social actions” still show in your friends news feed
I think it’s total BS. It’s rediculous that we can’t control this anymore, and this is supposed to be an improvement? I really don’t care for my 300 plus friends to see everytime i like someone’s status, or wish them a ‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY’ or some other more personal comment on their Wall. Seriously, are there any plans to change this? I don’t use it now as much as i did before the change and probably will use it less in the future.
I agree- the link is no longer there to edit this- I thought I was just crazy or missed it - thank you for posting this- lets get this changed!
There is a group which they are talking about privacy and stuffs.i love this group.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=259090030020
Facebook’s justification, at the top of the Profile Information privacy settings page:
“Whether we display a story on your profile is now controlled by the privacy of the content itself, rather than an additional setting. For example, only people who can see both your Wall, and the Wall to which you posted would be able to see a story about you writing on a friend’s Wall. You cannot completely turn off recent activity stories anymore. However, if you want to remove a particular story that currently shows up, simply click the “Remove” button that appears to the right of the story after you move your mouse over it. Learn more about privacy here.”
Not cool.
Has anybody noticed besides me that even deleting the i likes and added friends off your profile doesn’t actually delete it from other friends’ newsfeeds. I can delete all posts from my wall, log in to a second account and find all of those same posts still in the newsfeed. Also, how do you contact facebook directly? I can’t seem to find a link for it
how can I make my wall conversation did not appear in the news feed?
Bring back Wall privacy!!!!!!
You can complain to facebook directly…
http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=ui_privacy
and I also have complained to…
http://watchdog.truste.com/pvr.php?page=complaint&url=
Their reply was a joke, but I’d like to think that enough of us complain they’ll put it back. We’ll see. I also want to be able to make fan pages, et al, private again. We’ll see. For now I’ve just removed everything and am sending private messages.
Thanks for your new privacy settings facebook. It sure has encouraged me to be more ‘open’.
this is interesting…
http://www.facebook.com/photo_comments.php?id=247276926624#/pages/Hiding-News-Feed-Crap-With-FacebookFilter/247276926624
if anyone tries it, let us know if it works.
“You cannot completely turn off recent activity stories anymore. However, if you want to remove a particular story that currently shows up, simply click the “Remove” button that appears to the right of the story after you move your mouse over it. Learn more about privacy here.”
So there you go.. Facebook can kiss my ass now
This is really pathetic. I guess the whole apology by Facebook a year or two ago over the whole Facebook Beacon mess was just a big lie …. they eventually got what they wanted.
I noticed something weird just a few days ago. I’ve disabled ALL notifications to my wall (likes, comments, etc) for the last couple years.
Just the other day, I randomly visited my news feed and I saw EVERY SINGLE notification of “liking”, commenting, posting, etc that I had disabled notification for. I was able to go through and delete some of them, but there were so many.
However, when I refreshed the page, they ALL disappeared. So it looks like facebook keeps them hidden, which is HIGHLY annoying. It’s really gone downhill
i am so glad i found this discussion! i thought i had gone crazy, or a bit retarded and that was why i could no longer find these settings to sort.
dont see what facebooks game is with mucking about “fixing things that werent broken” so to speak. the news feed business is boring as hell. why the heck do i care whos statuses my friends like, and what they comment 2 each others pages and what they become a fan of? i had all these things turned off previously, as so many others appear to have done, and now feel terribley uncomfortable commenting on peoples pages. hopefully when they see the fuss they’ll get it sorted, because a major reason i was such a fan of FB was their good privacy settings.
The remove button dosn’t work. I’ve tested this by logging into another account in the house and see comments and likes that I’ve made on photos, groups, and links. All of those items were posted on the newsfeed of someone who was not friends with the original posters or part of the group. I’ve done the whole ‘grooming’ my personal newsfeed but it has neglible affect, if you can log in to another account ( or just make another account up to test it with yourself as a friend ) and you’ll see how dysfunctional this really is.
I’ve never really cared one way or the other about the changes that fb has made but this one is low and will actually curtail my usage of the site significantly.
Trent - I tried it and it did not work. It did nothing at all.
Thanks for your post man. I also got confused about the brand new News Feed privacy setting. Not to mention the hours lost trying to figure out what’s happening…
Stupid, stupid facebook…
I think I found something which “might” help a bit. privacy settings -> what you share -> learn more -> scroll down to the link “this page” and then there is a list of all the applications with “friends”, “events” and photos.. when you click on edit settings you can chose from “only me, only friends, etc. also go to the “additional permissions in the same edit box, you can unclick the “publish to streams”. It’s an annoying process and i think FB did this on purpose.. sucks that once it’s working perfectly, they had to mess it up like this.. try and see if it helps i just did it so i don’t know what it will stop yet. good luck..
that looks quite promising actually..
the only thing is: there is no “like-button”-application whatsoever. that’s in fact the only/most important thing i don’t want to be streamed.
good find anyway!
star> I just tried to follow your instructions and I couldnt find what you have done. No offence but these were poor instructions. I got as far as
“A guide to privacy on Facebook” page. I checked all over and THERE IS NO LINK CALLED “this page” as you describe.
PLEASE clarify your instructions STAR
many thanks
Winnie
Ok Star I found everything you are talking about but no where can I find anything about “friends”. I want to be able to block who I add as a friend from everyone, they don’t need to know. Did I miss something somewhere?
I am still VERY frustrated with the inability to control “RECENT ACTIVITY” on my wall. I am a fan of a group that shares photos of clouds and so we all support one another with comments and “likes” and so I’ll get dozens of these comments and likes in my recent activity which pushes down anything else that was on my wall. I don’t want to waste precious time removing and then deleting each and every comment and like. DOESN’T ANYONE HAVE THE ANSWER TO THIS? I have read many discussion threads and groups and have found no answer yet.
This is probably the best site I’ve looked at to target this facebook privacy problem, and it seems like there is no solution?
Facebook is aggravating me, I am avoiding posting on friends walls because I don’t want my comment critiscised or read by my 500 facebook friends!!
I don’t understand why Facebook took away these privacy settings. Facebook NEEDS to fix this.
Star,
Great find on allowing photos, notes, events, groups to publish to feed- I think this would restrict some things- but it seems to me that still doesn’t allow us to control: relationship status, wrote on ___’s wall, is now friends with, is a fan of, etc etc- any other suggestions?
OMG this is such a PITA. I hate the new settings. My friends can see everything I like, who I add etc, but when I need them to help on a “job/farm” etc…they can’t see the application post. I know there are others, but WTH is FB gonna do to fix this. I have 1000 Mafia and 99% cannot see my jobs/wishlist etc. Not to mention that they can see all the stuff I had turned off BEFORE the new “privacy” change, which is awful. I really hope they fix this ASAP.
Has this problem been figured out yet? I would like to be able to control who see’s what on my wall. Right now everone that accepts my friend requests will show up as accepting my request on all of my friends walls.
Hey everyone, I’m no expert, but the link some of you said “can’t find” is there. Once you click on “learn more” on the right side (Privacy Settings > Applications and Websites ) on the bottom of the page it says “You can view the full list of Applications you have authorized on this page.” —>”this page” is the link. I don’t know how else i can be clear. The other thing might be is that FB is very messed up, so it wouldn’t surprise me if these settings appear differently on different users.
To be able to find “Friends” try the options in the drop-down box on the top right to see different apps. Mine came up after I picked “allowed to post”.
About the wall comments appearing on the news feed.. Haven’t got anything for that one and it annoys the s##t out of me. I dont want everyone to see what I wrote to who…will post if i find anything tho. Good luck…(it really pisses me of that “us” the “users” are working our butts off to figure this mess.. FB employees must be too busy stuffing their mouths at the open buffet at their campus…
Dear Facebook,
Please stop posting what I write on people’s walls to other people’s (and my) newsfeeds!
i am slowly loosing my trust in face book. i don’t know what are they up to, but they are constantly changing settings for their business purposes at the price of our inconvenience.it seems to me they are forgetting what made them so successful in first place. i was advised to go to my settings and remove my self from face book and other search engines. well…the options they put themselves don’t work. and i can be found on the search engines ..and my friends list too. can anyone tell me how to solve this issue????
I’m so sick of this… I often comment and like 50+ things per day (before someone accuses me of having no life, keep in mind that to like something takes one second and to comment takes about 10, so it’s easy to get that many stories in about 10-15 minutes of Facebooking). I hate that my only options are to either force my friends to scroll through a bunch of clutter to see the important things (like my status updates) or take the time to delete each story one at a time, or stop commenting/liking things all together. WHY did Facebook do this!? What were they thinking? This is definitely a step backwards. I always support more user control, not less. And not allowing us to hide what pages we’re a fan of or our profile picture was a crappy move too. What the hell is Facebook doing with our information? It’s ruthless, to force these things on people just so they can have more activity show up in search engines. And believe me, it won’t stop here. Be careful guys - don’t post anything on Facebook you wouldn’t want the world seeing. Because soon enough, they probably will, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Facebook got rid of the “delete” feature too. The Facebook developers want everyone to live completely public lives, whether they like it or not. It’s sad and scary. They say that it’s excusable because Twitter is popular and it’s a public site. But they ignore that Twitter is used by different people for different things. People signed up for Twitter with the expectation that everything on it was public. That’s completely different from signing up for a site thinking it’s private, then having things become public. Whew, more than I planned to write, but that’s how I feel.
Just great!!
I commented on a female friends status quite innocently and now my girlfriend is giving me grief all because Facebook removed all this security. This other girl is not a friend of my girlfriend so I should be able to comment without risk. This is a disgrace.
Mike, I agree, it is a total disgrace; I have friends who have got into similar situations as yours. These new settings are totally spoiling facebook and I don’t understand why they seem to be ignoring the fact that so many people are unhappy with them.
Man, that’s horrible, Mike. . .
Hey Facebook: My other friends don’t want to see me wishing my brother-in-law a Happy Birthday on his wall, I assure you. Somebody fix this quick. . .
And why the heck can’t I hide my Friends list anymore?? Why was I hiding my Friends list from select people? Because I’ve got certifiably crazy people I need to keep as friends. I don’t want them to solicit my other friends for friendship status. I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this predicament. WTH, Facebook. WTH.
FUCK FACEBOOK AND ITS GAY ASS PRIVACY SETTINGS… I HOPE GOOGLE AND FB GET FIRE BOMBED!
I loved the new settings, i have an overly jealous girlfriend. I loved how i could make friends with so many people. Just ‘friends’ and she wouldn’t bug me every time they got added because she would never see them.
Now it’s there for the world to see. FUCK you facebook, you’re making relationships worse!
With “private” measures like these, facebook no longer appeals to me. What I post on a friend’s wall should not show up in a live Newsfeed. This “twitter”-esque method is precisely why I don’t use twitter: there’s no presumed privacy. I think greed mixed with a hasty approach to kill the competition will, in effect, be the death of this social networking site. Figure it out, facebook. The deactivate option is only a click away.
You have hit the nail on the head Brie; I agree entirely with what you have said. These changes make such bad business sense and I can’t believe how FB haven’t realised this yet.
I don’t like people being able to see what I’m saying to my friends on their walls via the news/live feed. I was fine having work people and the folks on my list when they couldn’t see what I was saying to my friends. Now I don’t like writing on my friends walls for fear all these people I don’t want knowing in depth information about my life can and WILL see them on the live feed. Privacy my arse!!
They’ll find that user activity will reduce significantly. If some other people come up with another social networking community with ACTUAL, non-laughable privacy settings, it’s goodbye facebook!! They’d better change this before a better option comes along. They could end up just like friendster. I used to defend facebook to all those ‘non-believers’ but not anymore. Way to generate bad word of mouth. Facebook sucks (now)!!!
With all these complaints still facebook hasn’t done anything to change this. I have friend defriending me because their homepage are overloaded of my activities. THIS IS BULLSHIT!
However, if you want to remove a particular story that currently shows up, simply click the “Remove” button that appears to the right of the story after you move your mouse over it.”
That’s at the top of one of the ‘privacy’ pages on facebook now…
I found this very annoying. I liked having only the posts and status updates on my wall, and it kept it from coming up on everyone’s feeds. Not that I do it obsessively, but when I go onto my own page, I tend to remove some of my recent activity updates just to clear it up a bit.
Let’s hope you do what you can on this.
I agree with the annoying factor. I’ve been searching for a way for a while and then decided to finally google it in hopes of finding a loophole.
I hope that this change gets corrected soon as every time I go to my own wall I have 400 new things that I’ve done and sometimes you don’t comment on everyone’s wall… or respond on time, etc.
*sigh*
every time i post a comment on someone’s wall,
it shows up on the news feed!
ugh. this is horrible.
there is no way to change this. i tried everything. lets start a group you guys. i am disgusted!
Has everyone here sent an email/letter/phonecall to facebook about this issue? Because you should. It’s a disgrace
Yes same here but I noticed it when my wall became populated with things when I post on someone else’s wall. I had these turned off when the Wall and Feeds option was available. So it seems that they turned them back on when they removed the ability to edit that section.
Just went on to facebook for the first time in awhile and was so annoyed that when I commented on a friend’s wall that it shows up on the live feed. Not good, I don’t appreciate everyone being able to see the conversation!
the only possible solution to this annoying problem I could find was to remove the wall completely. You can do this by:
settings -> privacy settings -> profile information -> posts by me -> custom -> only me
I don’t know what is happening in publish stream stuff.
Same here!!!!! Facebook is totally sucks!!!!!!!
I learned the other day that even though I hid my wall posts to only show on the persons wall I was posting, that those who pull up facebook on their phones, see all of the my posts. So there is yet another privacy problem, beware.
My problem with the lack of controls is that the message center is a significant hacker/virus problem. If I just want to post on a close friend’s wall but not litter up co-workers or business acquaintances with what message I have for them or vice versa, that should be my option. For example, the world doesn’t need to know I am bringing dessert to my family reunion, but it is not so private that I want to use the message center…I am so aggravated with all the changes I am ready to deactivate.

A link to lawsuits and complaints filed against facebook for privacy violations
You should also search for “news feed” and “news feed and wall” on face book to find groups and fan pages that you can join that are petitioning to restore the old privacy controls that were found in the “news feed and wall” section of the privacy settings before it was deleted by Facebook.
Seriously, the new design is WORSE!!! What the f**k were they thinking?
It’s true, like everyone is mentioning, if you leave a comment on someone’s wall, it ends up on the retarded “news feed” so everyone else can see.
Less privacy. And people that did the “Live Feed” workaround no longer works because they got rid it completely and forcing people to use their retarded, pointless “News Feed” that doesn’t even update properly.
Boycotting Facebook. Back to Myspace!!
I agree with all the above, you should be able to turn whatever you like on & off.
I am setting my wall to only me until Facebook sort this out.
This is STUPID!….and is the opposite to the privacy.
Facebook usage among the people on my friends list appears to have declinded significantly over the last few weeks. Far fewer people seem to be updating their statuses and the status updates that are there are lost amongst all the ‘xxx is now friends with xxx’ posts etc.
All I know is that I can go back to comments and links made over 6 months ago on my profile page…. and that means so can anyone else. This is not what I intended to use Face Book for and I will resort to email for future contact with friends. I love the fact that we can share pictures and all but the invasion of privacy is or will be a real problem. I refuse to participate in any apps as they also leave privacy by the side of the road. Face Book developers…. Please stop trying to fix the things that you had right in the first place.
i can´t seem to be able to decide for myself what my friends do and how much o this i can see on my news feed. before i could say i didn´t what to se much of or example famville but more pics, now everything gets thrown in to my news feed and i don´t care much about some app that my friends ar building, why sould i care how many eggs are being hatched by someone, befor, i could say how much of that app i wanted posted on my news feed. know… it all goes on…. i hate it!!!
GRRRR! This is so STUPID that facebook has taken away our ability to control what shows up on the news feed! It’s not that I have anything important to hide, really, but I also have made lots of “friends” simply by online game applications, and these are people I otherwise do not know or associate with. I do not wish to clutter up their news feeds with stupid things like when I “like so-and-so’s status”, “comment on so-and-so’s status”, wall-to-wall posts, become friends with someone new, etc. I’m sure most of my people don’t really care when I send a completely different person a “gift”, yet these things show up on the news feed as well and there seems to be no way to disable this, even through the application settings. I have been a facebook member since before it became a public thing (back when it was for colleges only), and have always disliked it in some way or another. Just when I was starting to actually like FB, they do some stupid crap like this and take away some of our ability to control our privacy. GRRR this is frustrating!
VIVA MYSPACE FOREVER!!
i am trying to change my name in facebook since 2 months but why it is rejected by the system aproval ?????????????????how wud i chane my name
IT IS REALLY FRUSTRATING THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE EVERY MOVE i MAKE!! Even if I delete it on my profile page it still shows on the news feeds on my friends pages… i went from a very active “friend” to a no response friend… I ate ppl knowing my every move.
Hi. I have just found out how to apply the privacy setting from your FB news feeds. YAAAAAY!!!!
all you do is this.
1) when you make a post on your page (ie. fan page), it will go to your personal profile news feed right??? OK and everyone can then see it which then confuses the issue between personal vs business.
2) hover over the item in the news feed that you want the privacy control over.
3)you will then get the ‘hide’ button displayed.
4) press the ‘hide button
5) verification popup
6) all done WHOOOOWHOOO!.
If you want to reverse this deciscion then all you do is go to the bottom of the news feeds and press ‘edit options’. You can then ad the stream back to your news feed. Pretty easy really……
Craig, this is just for hiding other people’s posts, not your own.
that’s the most important privace setting i need in facebook and cancel it ?!!!

its been a few months now and still no solution? fb really f’d us on this one.
my newsfeed is having a problem its smaller now and it is in the right side not in the middle can you help me to fix it????
i just changed my relationship status to ’single’ and it appears on everyone’s news feed and people starts making comments about it. it is embarassing and sucks
facebook sucks
i don’t want the whole world know what i’m doing
and there’s someone in my friend list–i don’t even know her she just added me out of nowhere–she keeps updating her status like every seconds and my news feed full of trash and bullshit
maybe i should deactivate my fb
There are some extended privacy settings on your profile page. Above your posts’ and comment’s below the “What’s on your mind box,” there is an “options” button with a magnify glass. Click that and then click “settings.”
Has anyone figured out the answer to the original question? How do you stop everything you comment on or like being posted to your page? The original question was about “showing wall post” which means everytime you like something or write on someones wall or comment on someones photos or statuses it would show on your page. I know you can go to your profile and remove EVERY SINGLE entry but who the hell wants to do that? How do we get that wall post feature back or has it come back? If so how do you get to it? I don’t like all my activity being out there and I don’t sure don’t like having to take the time to clean my page up all the time.
it’s terrible! I have my teachers as my FB friends and they don’t really want to see my comments on the party photos of my friends,or my comments on someones status on the News Feed!…argh, every comment or ‘like’ I make everyone knows about it. Please, return old settings back.
i agree … but i would also like to know why i dont even have the links for news feed under my privacy settings and also i have a friend who wall is gone…if you tag them in a pic then it goes to their profile but you cant’ go to their wall and write happy birthday… also i more question …how do you get all of your friend in your news feed because their are only a handful in mine and i have over 400 friends
EVERYONE GO TO THIS LINK: http://www.facebook.com/editapps.php?v=feed
Then find the application titled “Facebook” and hide recent activity and PROBLEM SOVLED. (it wont hide past activity but it will for future activity feeds
facebook.com/aponte film
I don;t get this either, the only things I ever want about me in the news feed are my status updates and links, I’ve stopped posting comments, it is absurd every time I leave a comment it ends up in newsfeed.
@Aponte Film: That does not take care of my “likes” and “commented on” news feeds. I do not see an application titled “Facebook.” I see one called “Facebook Prototypes” and there is nothing in there. I see the applications like Groups, Links, Photos, and you can control who sees those feeds. But you cannot control the feeds that say you “like” something or you “commented” on something.
When I comment on someone else’s status, it still appears in the news feed, as everyone is saying. I tell you what. If I am taking a little break at work at 10 am and go to Facebook for little 5-minute diversion to comment on someone’s status, not only can all my friends see that I did it, but WHAT TIME I did it.
This has just GOT to change.
Aponte Film is right! Go to the link he/she gave - http://www.facebook.com/editapps.php?v=feed
Then:
- Under the “Show:” drop-down menu select “Allowed to Post”
- Anything listed under is allowed to post to your profile (wall) and your friends’ news feeds
- To disable an applications ability to post click beside it on Edit Settings –> Additional Permissions & uncheck “Publish Content to my Wall”
- I don’t know for sure which application controls the “likes” & “commented on” posts, but I disabled permission for EVERYTHING EXCEPT PHOTOS and now nothing else shows up on my wall or newsfeed.
Try it (& let us know if you find out exactly which app is responsible for the likes & commented on posts)
SuperMom, it seems that it would work, but on mine there is not a “publish content to my wall” button, But everything i post is still showing up on my newsfeed.
I DONT LIKE THIS AT ALL!
I can’t do anything on my home page posts..can’t comment, can’t see who likes comments, can’t even confirm friends requests. How can I correct this?
i hide everything “publish content to my wall” but it seem that it still appears on newsfeed.. i rarely comment now on friend status update because i know i don’t want other friends in my fb to see them.. i still can’t figure out when i wrote on “A” friend on FB it appears on my newsfeed even after i go to my profile and click delete on who wall i wrote.. i logged out & logged back in i still see what i wrote on “A” friend on my newsfeed.. i don’t want people to see what i wrote or who i wrote to… help me fix this.. if i set my setting to “post by me” to “Only Me” i blocked everyone from seeing my wall…so frustrating… anyone figure out this issues?
I can tell you this….
IF you had your previous FB privacy settings setup to *not* publish certain activities, such as:
* Notification of Relationship Status
Or.. any other information you didn’t want posted on either/or your Wall or News Feed, the *new* FB retains those settings.
I was worried about the issue with FB’s latest security changes, because the option to filter what-is and what-is-not posted on the Feed is now gone.
However, all my old settings are still working.
I think the *trick* was this:
When FB FIRST greeted you with the NEW settings, it asked you:
“Would you like your old FB settings to apply?”
Many people skipped that question and went straight into digging through the new privacy options as quick as possible to protect their information.
I did *not* skip that question.. which you will only see ONCE. I clicked “yes” to that question and only THEN did I dig through the new privacy settings and start checking things private.
Bottomline:
If you checked “Yes” to “Keep old privacy settings?” when FB first did the privacy switch-over, then the things you had hidden in the News Feed still apply - even though you can’t go back and change them.
If you skipped “Yes” and went straight into setting up the new privacy settings, then you are basically out of luck.
