12 Comments »As we’ve written previously, there are over 2.5 million users that support the addition of a “dislike” button to the Facebook feed. Unfortunately for those users, it’s highly unlikely that Facebook will ever add such a button, however that’s not stopping developers from coming up with creative solutions. One developer has created a Firefox plugin which lets users dislike feed stories.
While the dislike actions are only visible to those users who have the plugin installed, my guess is that there are a lot of users who would like to click on a “dislike” link. Even if nobody else sees that you disliked a feed story, it can be cathartic to just click on the link. So far the plugin has only been downloaded just over 1,000 times, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see this number jump over the coming weeks and months.
Just this morning there were at least two new pages requesting the addition of a “Dislike Button” (dislike button page and dislike button petition page) each of which have over 1 million fans. While it’s clear that a vocal minority of Facebook users would like a dislike button, the best solution for these users is to download the “Facebook Dislike” Firefox plugin.
While the news feed was adjusted after millions of users protested it’s launch, I have not seen any product changes as a result of users organizing on the site since then. That’s not stopping millions of users from joining Pages and groups which request new features though! Do you think a dislike button would be a valuable addition to Facebook?
Thanks for the scoop Nick! One comment…after I installed this plugin, my browser scrolling got really choppy. After disabling this add-on, the choppiness went away. Something to beware of…

if you don’t like FarmVille, just hide all the FarmVille stories.

Horrible. Ruined my facebook experience. Nice idea, but horrible plug in.
Problems
Can’t scroll normally anymore, very choppy.
Firefox hangs to the point of it being useless.
If I close the facebook page, things clear up. I finally removed the plugin.
All these problems just to say I dislike something. If the other user made the post I dislike, he is completely unaware unless he installs this untested plugin which is horrible in usage. Please pull this already, it NEEDS WORK.
Concur with LFD - instead of whining about Farmville updates, just hide Farmville stories. Really not hard to do. Or make checking Status Updates the default option for you.

Since i installed the plug in facebook has totally messed up, i cant view older posts so am missing lots that friends have done. i have uninstalled it but its still doing them same, page freezes, wont allow me to update my status, wont allow me to chat to anyone, it is totally messed up and i dont know of anything else i can do seeing as its uninstalled, I would not recommend anyone to use this add on
