New Developer Policies Go Into Effect On December 16

-Facebook Platform Icon-This afternoon, Facebook posted that the new developer terms, as discussed at the Palo Alto Developer Garage at Facebook Headquarters last month, will go into effect starting December 16th. The new terms, which are the standards originally set forth in through the Application Verification Program, are being integrated intro the new Developer Priciples and Policies and the Statement of Rights and Responsibilities. Facebook has gone ahead and highlighted the changes and clarifications.

The primary changes highlighted in the developer wiki, state that applications:

  • Must provide a link to their privacy policy in the info section of your Application Profile page and on every page of the app
  • Must make it easy for users to report inappropriate content
  • Cannot promt users to send invitations, requests, generate notifications, or use other Facebook communication channels immediately after a user grants access to the app
  • Can’t send multiple communications in response to a user’s single action
  • Cannot prompt users to bookmark your application (via a modal window or pop-up dialog).

There are some other minor changes, all of which can be found in the documents that we’ve linked to above.
