Today Facebook will announce the upcoming changes to the platform which we highlighted earlier this week. While we aren’t going to be able to make the developer garage, Mike Arrington has already highlighted some of the upcoming changes, one of which is massive: “apps will no longer be able to publish to notifications.” Developers have spent the past two years optimizing their notifications strategies to drive most of their traffic.

New Hitwise Stats: Facebook Dominating While Twitter Falls

If there were any signs to suggest that Facebook is building a monopoly over U.S. social networking, the latest statistics published by Hitwise surely paint a grim picture for Facebook’s competitors. Facebook increased its U.S. market share from 55.15 percent in August to 58.59 percent in September. Where did the majority of that share come from? Myspace, not surprisingly.

Celebrities Using Facebook To Manage Their Relationships And Reach Fans

While Twitter may be the primary resource for many celebrities to blast out updates to their fans, celebrities are turning to Facebook to manage their actual relationships. Twitter-loving celebrities also appear to be turning to Facebook as one of their resources for sending updates to fans. Earlier this week, Randi Zuckerberg posted a screenshot of the first mobile update sent by Demi Moore to her Facebook Page, with the hopes of continuing the trend.

Facebook Launches “Peace On Facebook”

This afternoon Facebook is launching the “Peace on Facebook” hub as part of the broader “Peace Dot” initiative which currently has few details about the program. The “Peace On Facebook” service includes a live stream widget in addition to charts which highlight the volume of connections among countries, religions, and political parties which are part of opposing groups. It’s an interesting initiative although we’re not sure how Facebook will be promoting this new service and what more will come from what is essentially a landing page.

Johns Hopkins University Will Serve As Set For Facebook Movie, “The Social Network”

According to an announcement from Johns Hopkins University today, Columbia Pictures will be shooting two sequences of the film, “The Social Network” on the university campus on November 2nd and 3rd. According to the release, “Homewood will be doubling for Harvard in the scenes being shot next week.” This is the first notice we’ve seen about the actual shooting of the film.

New Bredolab Virus Targets Unsuspecting Facebook Users

There’s a new virus spreading around the web via email which targets Facebook users. According to mxlab, the email includes downloadable files which include the Trojan virus: Bredolab. While I’d imagine that Gmail and more aggressive spam blocking email services will filter this out, anybody who receives a “Facebook Password Reset Confirmation” email should delete it right away.
