Google Now Indexes Over 52 Million Facebook Groups

52 Million Facebook Groups

I’m not sure when this happened but it appears Google now indexes over 52 million Facebook groups. Facebook has told us that all “open” groups (via privacy settings) have always been indexable, however the amount of information available to Google has always been in flux. At one point discussion threads within Facebook groups were made accessible to Google, however it wasn’t clear what other information was available. It now appears that all public groups are indexed, and have been for a while.

5 Ways Facebook Killed Your Chance With Her

Bad Date Icon

Facebook can make or break relationships. All too often I’ve seen it do the latter and it while it sometimes ends long-term relationships, it’s much easier to have it kill your chances with a girl before you’ve even started the relationship. After date one, you are posting on her wall, commenting on her status, and sending her gifts. You may want to think twice about that next time buddy because you have just become Mr. Desperate and you can kiss her goodbye. Below are five ways guys end up messing up their chances with their crush on Facebook.

Facebook Platform Live Status Now Up And Running

API Response Time Icon

For any Facebook developer, platform downtime is a fact of life. While Facebook has built a relatively stable platform, there are many occasions where it goes down for a period of time. For developers this can be extremely difficult as they don’t know if there’s a bug in the code, a server issue, or simply that Facebook isn’t working properly. That’s why Facebook launched the new Platform Live Status page yesterday. The service lets developers check whether or not any issues are on their end or on Facebook’s end.

Forget that halloween party you were planning on going to tonight and stay in to watch the Foo Fighters streaming live from Studio 606 on their Facebook Page. This form of streaming event is becoming increasingly popular, all of which tend to have the same layout: a streaming video service combined with Facebook’s live stream widget.

For a long time now there has been an issue surrounding Facebook users’ ability to permanently delete their accounts. While users were able to remove their information from the site, it wasn’t extremely clear to users how they could delete their accounts. The new clarification is a result of a complaint filed by the Canadian Privacy Commission.

Facebook Gets A $711 Million Settlement Against Spammer Sanford Wallace

Sanford Wallace Headshot

Back in June I wrote about a ruling against Sanford Wallace, who is one of the most well known spammers. As of today, the case as been settled and “California awarded Facebook $711 million in damages against Sanford Wallace”. Additionally, Wallace now faces possible jail time. Despite the massive settlement, it’s unlikely Wallace will ever show up in California again, or pay the settlement.

The Open Graph API: What Does It Mean?

Facebook Connect Identity Icon

At yesterday’s Facebook Developer Garage, Facebook outlined a number of the upcoming changes to the Facebook Platform which we are still in the process of digesting, however one major thing stood out to us: the Open Graph API. Why Facebook chose to share this tidbit is a little bit curious, as it appears to be a shot at smoothing over some of the broader changes at hand. Whatever the impact of Facebook’s changes on developers are, the Open Graph API is part of a broader movement by Facebook.

One Weakness To Facebook’s Social Analytics: Short URLs

Facebook Share Widget

When Facebook released their Social Analytics service last week I was extremely enthusiastic. It’s a huge move by Facebook to open up data about how many users are sharing, commenting on, liking, and clicking URLs on the site. I still am extremely enthusiastic, however today I realized a huge flaw in the system: short URLs.
