This afternoon Facebook announced that they are launching an updated version of their inbox. Finally! So what changes are coming to the inbox? A few things. The greatest improvement is the ability to filter through those messages that have been unread. Facebook Page updates will also get their own tab, which is surprising since it had previously appeared as though the company was reducing the emphasis on Page updates.
Facebook said that the new version of the inbox will be rolled out over the coming weeks. Facebook also states that “The new Inbox design gives you more control over organizing messages and choosing which messages you receive.” Unfortunately the screenshot that they provide in the inbox doesn’t illustrate what sort of controls Facebook is talking about. One of the weakest features of Facebook has been its inbox so I’m excited to see the new version. Hopefully this will make the system more manageable as I now have almost 1700 unread messages.
When Scott Marlette mentions that Facebook will give you more control over your inbox, it appears that he is referencing subscriptions to groups and Pages. Right now I get countless event and group messages which essentially fill up my inbox. I eagerly await the latest version of the inbox. One feature which Facebook doesn’t appear to be focused on is the ability to export messages.
It would be great if I could manage my Facebook inbox from within my email inbox. Offering that capability appears seriously unlikely though. Have you found the Facebook inbox to be unmanageable? Do you think this is a sufficient upgrade?

great great
Nothing yet, I guess i will just have to wait for the update, but agree a great new feature!
looking forward to trying this and believe its about time considering every other aspect has changed since the early applications and pre profile redesign days while the new search is in the works and they rolled out ‘testing’ to selective favorites.
The screenshot do not confirm or dismiss that notifications will finally move from this section but having notifications section is a welcome way of reviewing notifications from the past as well as times when there is quite a few sent rather quick in succession and maybe this method of viewing the notifications through the inbox route may change but 23-40 unread notifications every login the notification window will not cope with the task if I wanted to go from one notification to notification.
Very interesting: I always thought the threaded messaging that facebook included reminded me of gmail or im sessions. By adding “sent” to the left column, it looks like they may be separating messages and losing that threading?
I wish that they provide user with personalise email like username@facebook.com so we can email from any email client without compose from Facebook inbox.
Is it just me, or does facebook seem to be down? perhaps something to do with the update?
I would love it if they’d add the capability to forward messages. That’s a feature that’s really missing for me. Am I missing something?
yeah facebook seems to be down for me, no notifications and the feed is slow to update
This is an excellent step and one well needed. The functionality of the inbox has been lacking and this will be a great improvement so long as they keep the threading which is so useful
This looks a great development and one that will be welcomed by most people.
Thanks for sharing,
Karl
interesting
I’m extremely excited about facebook being translated into the language of hundreds of millions of people across the middle east and south Asia. This is really strange to see incorrect words on the most popular medias of the world, I mean Persian is not only the Language of Iran -it is the academic, official and the widely spoken language of Afghanistan. Persians make 55% percent of Afghanistan’s population (wait for the new statistic to be released). In addition, the language Persian happens to be the mediating language amongst non-persian speakers in my country -Afghanistan.
People in the republic of tajikistan’s are Tajiks in ethnicity but the speak in persian with the tajik accent, the difference is simply like American and British English.
Hoping they will include a way to not be included on messages that you already deleted when they were sent to a group! If I deleted the message, that means I’m not interested in the other 15 people’s response. And provide a way to forward a message and find friends within facebook without having to manually type all of their names…the invite friend feature would be great…
“I wish that they provide user with personalise email like username@facebook.com so we can email from any email client without compose from Facebook inbox.”
That’s a great idea someone already mentioned. If Facebook did that then they would provide serious competition to Gmail.
What a load of rubbish. I was ok with how it was and now Ive lost my notifications from underneath the inbox. Why cant facebook leave well alone. They messed up the status link from friends and now mine doesnt work. I do not get status updates when I click on all friends. I do via other peoples??? Now no notifications. I wouldnt mind if there was a way to contact fb to tell them but there isnt. People will just not bother any more. Im getting that way.. Its no fun!! Ive also lost some of my photos and links which were made on my profile page. Stuff I wanted to keep. Sometimes Im shown on line twice or on line when Im not there…
