Yesterday a new wave of phishing scams spread throughout Facebook and today, those scams continue to spread. So far today I’ve received at least two separate scam emails. The first which was sent out was bestspace.be at 7:00 am this morning but by the time I checked it out, the site had already been blocked. Then a few minutes ago I received an email suggesting that I visit whitemart.be which has still not been shut down.
The latest wave of phishing scams has been exploiting Facebook users by attempting to convince them to log in to sites that resemble Facebook. The difference between these ones and before is that the URLs of the sites don’t even look like Facebook. While it’s not one hundred percent that the sites are run by the same people as yesterday’s scams, it’s pretty likely.
What these phishers are attempting to accomplish is currently unknown but it’s clearly affecting a lot of users considering that I’ve received at least two messages so far today. Facebook has become increasingly effective at squashing these scams quickly but most likely thousands of people are affected before Facebook has a chance to stop them. This is so far one of the most widespread phishing attempts that I’ve seen and Facebook is pursuing the scammers aggressively.
Social phishing scams have become commonplace as people tend to trust users received from their friends. Over the coming days I would expect Facebook to step up measures to stop these scams as it is clearly a burden to the users. Have you seen any more scam URLs in your inbox today?

i wonder what repercussions I am going to suffer from this…

I received on the other day that looked like it was from FB. It was from a contact of mine who is NOT on FB. it said to check out my photos on FB. when clicked it took me to my own FB home page.
received whitemart.be from a user today. i notified them to change their pw immediately and verify acct settings ensuring the email addy wasn’t changed, etc.
I did, indeed, receive a suggestion to check out whitemart.be, but fortunately, my search on Google went nowhere–except to come up with your cautionary warning. Thanks for posting!
I got the same mail from a facebook friend earlier today, it seems her account had been hacked and the message sent to all her contacts… I didnt sign in so at least it shouldnt be spreading through my account.
Just got the same email regarding whitemart.be came from a friend of mine on facebook, through a facebook email to my email account, so i figured it was legitimate. i clicked on it, and it brought me to a login page that looks identical to the facebook login page. i logged in, and then my screen went blank. can’t wait to see what trouble this is going to cause. PHISHING SCAM!!!
I received from a friend with this one: “Look at mymarket.be”. It just smelss phishy, so I deleted it immediately.
It upsets me that people do stuff like this, do they not have anything else better to do with their time other than program spyware, virii and worms?
Just received one from a facebook friend’s account that linked to a page that appeared to be facebook, but with blaring, almost obvious typos and grammatical errors. Still, will some be dumb enough to sign in?
It’s not a phishing scam, it’s an open door into your facebook account and possibly a virus! I never entered any info when I followed the link, cause it looked like a phishing scam… but my account got hacked today sending out this link to my friends today.
DELETE YOUR COOKIES, if you followed the link to the login page, even if you didn’t enter any info; then it put cookies on your computer!
I got one the other day, maybe yesterday, and clicked on the link. Today my account sent out “Look at bestspace.be-messages to all my Facebook-friends.. Don’t know if that happened because I clicked on the link I recieved, or because I’ve written my password on the page? Anyway, Facebook had reset my password as a security precausion before I even noticed it, so I guess they are doing what they can to prevent these things from happening.
i got a message a couple od days ago and followed the link but i didnt enter any information, now i can’t access my facebook account and i think my email on facebook has been changed and i am not able to reset my password. any suggestions on what i can do now?
If anyone knows how to get off one of those sites let me know. I unfortunately did apply for membership, but once you get there are not settings and a way to remove yourself.
thanks - anyone out there have a solution?
