Today the updated version of Facebook for Blackberry has gone live. I just downloaded the application by visiting mobile.blackberry.com from my Blackberry’s mobile browser. I previously wrote about the updated Facebook Blackberry application back in March and all of the cool new features that come with it. It looks pretty slick and I’m waiting to finish installing it so I can post a video review.
As I previously wrote, there are four new features to the upgraded version of the application:
- Calendar Sync - This will update your handheld’s calendar with Facebook events.
- Contact Sync - This will sync your handheld’s contacts directly with Facebook’s. I’m a bit hesitant to try this feature out with thousands of contacts as friends.
- Direct Friend Dial - This is the ability to call friends directly from the Facebook application.
- Status Comments - While it has been available on the iPhone, the Blackberry version of the Facebook application didn’t previously have the ability to view status comments.

does your screen shot show that the mobile version still prefixes the status with “is”?

Just downloaded it, and it’s spamming my friends with Phonebook requests when I link them to contacts.
Nope; it automatically puts it in the text field (i think) but you can delete it. even now tho facebook stopped putting it anyway.
I’ve been playing with this since last night and its nothing special. It basically adds a connection b/w your bb contacts and fb contacts. It also adds another calendar to phone with all your current events plus fb events. That would be nice but I haven’t seen anyway to see this new calendar on say…Facebook. Once again Rimm is behind Apple. Sorry about the rant. I look forward your review.
keeps crashing my BB
Hi, I for the first time own a blackberyy 8900 curve… i want to know if there is anyway i could use the facebook and google and other applications like this without a BB connection?? Because i dont have one right now. and i am totally counting on my WIFI connection for the internet through my blackberry… could someone please help.. temme if there is a patch or alternate software.. or tweaks.. anything?!
I have to agree with David, the app keeps crashing my blackberry with the spinning hour glass of death.
I feel like one of those folks whining about the “old facebook” but i want the old app back
Do we need to uninstall the old version, or does it do it automatically for us? If we do need to uninstall, how does one go about doing that?
Its official, I finally have severe disdain for this application after trying for 2 weeks to be nice about it. From spamming my friends for contact info, to endless waiting for refreshes, to even the junky scroll rates on my BB Curve … Make it go away and bring back the simplicity of 1.5 or earlier!!! Arghhhh!
I wish that I could have the version 1.3 back!!! Before, although you cannot comment on fb statuses (which I love) now I only get a few of the status updates whereas before I would be able to view the last 7 hours of statuses… Very unhappy with the new version.
Anybody can help me? I just downloaded fb v1.6 to BB, but I get no notice at all when friend write on wall or comment on photos.
I am thinking to install v1.5 again, but couldn’t find it. Anybody knows where I can find v1.5?

With V1.6, I hate that it is slow to load the updates page. I wish it would open with status page like v1.5. Also, there is no “clear status” button. Why?????
you guys also forgot to comment on the notificatkon that we used to get by facebook. now i get all notifications on my email. it sucks cause i have to check my email now instead of getting a msg from facebook.! is there an option to get the notification msgs through facebook again!?
yesterday, they released a new updated facebook application. the updated only minor change. Now Facebook Application version 1.6.0.21.
i downloaded the new 1.6.0.21. on my blackberry 8310 and it doesn’t work right, most of my friend did not transfer , status update is way off time, can you help me…can i download an older version???? if so where can i find it….thanks

Is there a small icon on the top with a number next to it. Ihave the tour and this icon is up near the time which is an area I can’t scroll to. I do get icon to get to facebook. Also can someone tell me how to get the icon out of the apps folder to my main icons.
I figured out the answer to both of my questions. Like they say if you play around with the device long enough you figure out everything.
