ffwd Adds Facebook Connect to Tap the Social Graph

-ffwd Logo-ffwd, the video player that provides recommendations based on personal preference and social interaction, is expanding its social realm to include Facebook Connect. The integration of Facebook Connect makes it easier for an existing user or potential new user that already has a Facebook account to login to ffwd and participate in the video viewing features of the player.

ffwd already had Twitter integration, which the company revealed during the SXSW conference earlier this month, pulling data from Twitter streams and enabling users to share clips via their Twitter own streams. So layering in even more social networking capabilities to the ffwd service means that the sharing capabilities of content accessed on ffwd are expanded as well as the recommendation capabilities ffwd offers.

With just the Facebook Connect integration, the sharing and recommendation options for video content on ffwd are still somewhat limited, as you can only connect with existing Facebook friends and sharing options are restricted to optional wall posts. Tapping deep into the Facebook social graph will prove greatly useful for ffwd to build out its recommendation options, however, as the ability to leverage existing contacts and other profile-listed interests could extend a better fit for personalized content.

Such integration is not yet available for from ffwd, though the company has already stated its plans for deeper Facebook integration with a more robust application that lives on Facebook. ffwd has also indicated that the ongoing integration of Facebook’s platform will better position the company for future growth through funding, which includes a bid for being considered for the next fbFund round.

Such intentions really indicate the level of dedication ffwd is displaying towards the use of Facebook’s platform for its own success, which I believe is directly tied to the potential for search and recommendations through the use of Facebook users’ social graph. As Facebook becomes more of a centralized platform for taking advantage of an established network as well as adding social networking capabilities to your own site, more companies like ffwd will look to Facebook’s platform options to limit their own costs and take on a new concept of successful growth of an application.
