Yesterday I wrote that Facebook was automatically hiding pages that users were previously fans of prior to the new design change. At the time I couldn’t figure out the logic behind the separation of hidden and visible public profiles. I reached out to Facebook but received no clarification on the matter. Yesterday evening I noticed a small box at the top of my feed that appeared to have a clarification. The box states:
From now on, posts from Pages you are a fan of will show up in your News Feed. You can hide their posts by clicking the ‘x’ in the top right corner of the post. If you would like to see posts from Pages you connected to in the past, click here.
When you click the link, the hidden pages dialog box shows up and you can add hidden pages back into your feed. It appears that Facebook hasn’t pushed forward completely with the new name of the product which is “public profiles”. Facebook’s decision to place a box at the top of the feed suggests that there was indeed some confusion about how these pages/public profiles were populated.
At this point you will have to manually add public profiles back into your feed individually as I described yesterday. It’s not a huge deal but there were many users that were confused about why their messages were not showing up in users’ feeds. This also means that for larger pages, a substantial number of fans were not seeing updates meaning that the initially drive for promoting to fans was essentially useless.
Hopefully this new feed message will drive users to unhide public profiles from their feeds.

The “add all” button is missing. It seems highly unlikely to me that the average user will be adding all pages manually back to their feeds.
Thanks for the update. I’m yet to see this box but I guess its rolling out.
Its seems a real shame that they didn’t auto add all current pages, with over 160,000 fans a lot of people are going to miss out on the updates. Simply because people don’t read such notices.
and it looks like the page insight stats are not recording
Mine haven’t updated since Wednesday.
Outrageous! It’s like knocking everyone back to zero!
I going to guess that they did this so that users wouldn’t suddenly get an overload of Fan Page/Public Profile updates into their News Feed and scream SPAM!!!
Right or wrong, that was probably the concern and reason for it.
I am glad I waited to promote my Public Profile to my readers till after this became clear.
That message that was put there I read t”From now on, posts from Pages you are a fan of will show up in your News Feed.” and then though oh great, that’s good. Closed the notification and didn’t read the rest. I am sure that many fans have done this. I think Facebook should enable all of the pages by default and then if you wish to remove it you may do so, this would be the easiest way and it does not hit the responsible page admins.
Does anyone have that link? Or know where else we can dig it up? It’s not in the help or Pages application. Thanks!
found it! At the bottom of the feed, there’s a button that says “Show Hidden Friends”. You can restore hidden pages from here.
I’m not sure if this is related or not, but I saw an update in my homepage from a small page I became of fan of several months ago.
