Buddy Media And Intel Launch 3D Facebook App

-Intru3d Icon-The latest app-vertisement from Buddy Media is called InTru3D, and it was created for Intel. In beta for the last month, the InTru3D application on Facebook lets you create a 3D avatar that can interact with other users’ avatars and participate in games as well. The application is really a way for Intel and Dreamworks to show off some of the technology used for games and movies in a branded environment that is interactive enough to captivate Facebook users’ attention.

The InTru3D app and its features were designed specifically to appeal to a broad audience on Facebook. This is becoming necessary for some brands looking to use Facebook apps for marketing purposes. However, the ability to create multiple apps, especially within a network such as Buddy Media’s, means that a brand also has the opportunity to target smaller niche groups that reside on Facebook. For InTru3D’s purposes however, the broad appeal is a natural fit, given the objectives of Intel to show off its technology and get users to interact within the application environment.

The InTru3D environment features options to customize an avatar, take photos (which can be posted on one’s Facebook profile) and mingle with other users’ avatars. The social capabilities of the InTru3D application extends beyond one’s immediate friends to include the wider array of their social graph, reaching friends of friends as well. One downfall of the InTru3D application’s social capabilities however is the limiting way in which a user can communicate with friends on this app, as they’re unable to see which of their friends have already added the application for themselves and subsequently created a 3D avatar.

There are also games included in the InTru3D application, which will earn one points and move you up the leaderboard. Points can be redeemed in the avatar customization realm, giving one access to locked skins and other avatar features. This is a common trait for avatar communities that often keep users coming back–more activity means more unlocked features, with an increased commitment to the branded application itself.

Buddy Media has created a number of app-vertisments for several brands now, and it’s doing so on both ends of he spectrum. Whether the application is an ad itself, such as InTru3D, or the application is one that can be leveraged for targeted advertising, Buddy Media is steadily expanding its empire and layering in more opt-in analytics. Such features seem to be attracting some big brands to Buddy Media’s service, as we’ve seen continued success from Buddy Media since the company has rolled out tools such as its Facebook Page Management system.
