There’s been a lot of buzz today about Mark Zuckerberg’s new “sentiment engine” that Facebook is supposedly working on according to Robert Scoble who was paraphrasing a conversation he had with Mark Zuckerberg while walking the streets of Davos. Working on a sentiment engine sounds like something which is more abstract. This is in contrast to what Tim Kendall said in the podcast I posted this morning, which was that Facebook is working on bringing status update content and the time frames of those updates to the ad platform.
There were some other interesting nuggets of information that came out of the panel “Next Digital Experience” at World Economic Forum. The participants were Chad Hurley of YouTube, Craig Mundie of Microsoft, Mark Zuckerberg, Shananu Narayen of Adobe, Hamid Akhvan of T-Mobile, and Eric Clemmons of Wharton.
One of the most interesting items was Mark Zuckerberg’s statement that there are over 25 million people actively using mobile applications on Facebook. This isn’t that surprising. The iPhone Facebook application alone has around 5 million monthly active users and Facebook for Blackberry has over 3.25 million monthly active users.
Mike Arrington tried to hit on privacy and asked about location sharing with Facebook but ultimately Mark Zuckerberg suggested that this is something that is still early on. He believes that it will be easier to share that information in the future when the mobile platforms consolidate but for now, it’s still too early. Check out the video below to listen to the panel.
