Facebook Adds Subtle “Change Picture” Link in Profiles

-Change Picture Link Screenshot-Today I noticed a small addition to user profiles: when you view your personal profile and mouse over your avatar, a link for “Change Picture” shows up. It’s such a small change that I almost decided not to write about it but how could I resist when we cover “All Facebook”? Facebook is constantly making minor adjustments and this is one of them. While you could change your profile picture before, this is an easier way to do it.

This could also be an old feature that I’m just now realizing considering that is something that frequently happens to me! The small adjustments made by Facebook clearly have a lot of effort put into them. Through extensive user testing, Facebook has been able to attract users that were previously not engaged on social networks to their site.

They’ve also been able to increase the engagement levels among their active user base. This is a critical differentiating factor for Facebook and something that places them well above the rest. While many other social networks have been mimicking Facebook’s features, few sites have led the charge on implementing new features as Facebook has.

This is one small change for our Facebook profiles, one giant leap for the digital web … just joking! It’s a small change and a much welcomed one. Am I completely late on this feature as usual?

it’s been around…..it’s fun though! too bad i don’t have any good pictures of myself. (=

Yeah, I think this rolled out with or shortly after the site redesign. Very clever way of adding more functionality/links into less screenspace.

Hey Nick,

I think this is good that you are sharing. This feature has been around for some time but is not well known.I bring awareness to this feature to my friends all the time, especially the ones that change their profile frequently. They love it.

This has definitely been up for a little while now, but it’s really convenient - I also like the feature where you can click through to change your icon so that it appears as you want it, rather than defaulting to, say, the center of the profile picture, which is sometimes awkward.

yup yup ..
too late
but good analysis :)

Your facebook connect implementation is messing up. the first 4 comments have the same photo and profile link, yet show a different name. I believe all the people after someone who uses facebook connect end up getting the last person facebook connect link.

thats been on the profile image since the redesign. Kinda slow there Nick.

@Mike (Facebook User) … I’m talking to Facebook to find out what is going on there … I’m using the plugin they developed so I’m not sure why that’s happening.

@Michael, can’t be quick with everything

@Mike (Facebook User) , the photo problem is now fixed … wasn’t Facebook’s plugin was my own code :/ now just to figure out why you are showing up as “Facebook User”
