Bottle Rocket is a Facebook application currently competing for the fbFund $1 million prize. It is a wine-rating application aiming to provide you with the information you need in order to select a wine that’s right for you. Based on your continued participation, the BottleRocket application will recommend wine that fits your pallet.

With Bottle Rocket, you can rate wines, search wines, and see the ratings and comments others have left within this application. However, if you’re a novice when it comes to wine, it can be somewhat difficult to get started with this application. Instead of searching from the basics, such as white or red, or food pairings, you’ll need to simply enter in the name of a wine in order to begin browsing the ratings of others. And the BottleRocket application won’t be able to offer you any recommendations until you’ve rated a wine, which can be frustrating to the user that may have little experience in wine tasting.

Another downfall for Bottle Rocket is that it doesn’t readily leverage one’s existing group of Facebook friends for recommendations, or have a built-in ratings system for users in order to determine the application’s influencers. As a Facebook application, I’d really like to see Bottle Rocket have an option to see friends that have also added the app, so that I can get wine recommendations and ratings from those I know and trust.
