listen up y'all!!

networks are still going to be there

the network page is going to be removed

the network page serves no real purpose and is used by sleazy people and peadofiles to meet random people they dont even know off the internet.

facebook are going to nip this in the bud before a child goes missing and gets raped up the butt after meeting some old man off the internet who they thought was going to be a teenager

facebook isnt a dating site for the facially challenged and socially inept.

its a place where you connect online with people who you already have a real-life connection with, ie at the very least a friend of a friend, if not friends

if you want to have 10'000 friends youve never met, go on myspace, thats what thats all about

if your trawling the internet looking for sleazy shags, visit adultfriendfinder, your local nightclub, brothel, etc

If one of the points of facebook was to meet new people in your area with similar interests...removing the network page kinda counteracts that, especially since some people have their profiles set to be viewed only by friends or people within that network. By removing the network page, now the only way to find and get an idea for people with this setting is to randomly add them as friends, because groups don't offer the same option. It sucks, because I met a lot of really cool people and decided not to add a lot of lame people due to a quick look at a profile. And even if removing the network page doesn't eliminate the ability to view someone's profile, it's harder to find these people now because it's not based out of a specific region. Soo this is kinda sh*tty in my opinion, but whatever. I'm drunk right now so I'm not sure this argument even makes sense, but I think it's okay. I just see facebook making some pretty stupid decisions in the future that might upset a lot of people and contradict the very reasons why the site was created. Once again, I am drunk though..

"This is a big problem since networks allow people to segment the groups they create geographically or by student network. Now for example, it will be impossible to create a cause in the Spain network and thus avoid it getting confused with similar causes created within the Colombia, Mexico, Argentina networks"

That argument makes no sense at all.

Network PAGES are being removed; NETWORKS will still be there - Facebook would never remove its basic privacy protection.

Groups can still be created for specific networks. In your example, someone in the Spain network can create a group for just the people in the Spain network. People can still search for groups by network, and browse the popular groups in their networks, so they will still be able to find the group.

This is a big problem since networks allow people to segment the groups they create geographically or by student network. Now for example, it will be impossible to create a cause in the Spain network and thus avoid it getting confused with similar causes created within the Colombia, Mexico, Argentina networks, all where Spanish is spoken.

One example: Each country has its own tobacco laws. A group created in one country to lobby for changes to this law can not now be clearly differentiated from another group campaigning for different changes, in different circumstances, and on a different continent.

It will be much harder for citizens to lobby governments credibly on any issue and Facebook will look more like any random chat room.
