Facebook Lets Users Suggest Friends

As I wrote last week, Facebook has been adjusting the “friends you may know” feature over the past week. They took it down temporarily, brought it back up and now it has disappeared again. One of my readers sent me a screenshot of a new feature that Facebook has added: friend suggestion referrals. What happens is if you add a friend who is a new user, Facebook will prompt you to click through a list of friends that are probably friends with the person you have requested.

This is a great new feature and one that I’m sure new users will find extremely useful. One of the biggest challenges on Facebook is the loss of new users that are not able to connect immediately with other members. As such, Facebook is trying to engage these users as much as possible and connect them with people they may know. Since new users don’t have many contacts, the “friends you may know” feature does not work effectively since they don’t have a number of contacts to cross-check against.

This new feature emphasizes Facebook’s dedication to improving the ability to accurately map users’ social graph. The more effectively they can do this, the longer they will remain a leader in the social networking space. LinkedIn is currently the closest competitor when it comes to accurately mapping the graph. Thanks to Satish for the heads up!

As I wrote when you mentioned this feature a couple of weeks ago, this really feels like they are moving head-on towards LinkedIn’s core offering: http://www.emaildashboard.com/2008/03/facebook-...

hi pls add me.. Thx ^____^

Since this feature is disabled for a user who has passed soome time at the FB. You can get this feature back by adding ‘?suggestfriends=’ at the end of his profile ID or username. For example http://www.facebook.com/bithacker?suggestfriends=

What about old friends how do you suggest them being friends to someone who also is not new?

i have used the technique. it really works!!

I tried the suggestion from Bit Hacker and it didn’t work for me, so when I received a “suggest friends” link I clicked on it and copied the http address that showed in the toolbar. Then I went to the friend I wanted to suggest friends to (but hadn’t been given a link ’cause they were not new to Facebook), I noted my friend’s id # in their http address, pasted the “suggest friends” http address in the tool bar, and changed the ID number at the end to my friend’s id #. Following are Step-by-step instructions:

When you click on a friend that you would like to suggest friends to, you will see their id number in their http address.

Example:
http://www.facebook.com/friends/?added&ref=tn#/profile.php?id=1234567890

Your friend’s id # is the 10 diget number at the end of their http address. I think they are all 10 diget, BUT I could be wrong about that. Write your friend’s id # down.

In my example, I would write down: 1234567890

While on your friend’s page, paste the following http address into the tool bar and type your friend’s id # at the end of the http address:

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?suggestfriends&id=

If I wanted to suggest friends to my friend with the id # 1234567890, it would look like this:

http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?suggestfriends&id=1234567890

That should open up the window that allows you to suggest friends!

I hope that works for you!

Kim

where do i find the id #
