Easter Eggs in Facebook Chat

Earlier this week, Jesse Farmer notified me of a post he wrote about some interesting findings after hacking around with the new Facebook chat. One of those interesting things that he found was a picture of one of the developers inserted into the emoticons that are provided within the application. This reminds me of the days of NBA Jam on Super Nintendo!

FBChat Emoticons

Facebook has been known for leaving easter eggs throughout their site and this is another one. Take a look at the last image in the lineup of emoticons above. According to Jesse, there is a good chance that it’s an image of Chris Putnam, one of the engineers over at Facebook. Considering you need to type “:putnam:” to get the image to display I would say that there is a good chance that he’s right.

Jesse gives a thorough overview of how he hacked the chat system to find this emoticon so if you are into development type of stuff, you might want to check out his overview. I definitely got a quick refresher in leveraging Firebug to track incoming and outgoing packets from my browser. Thanks to Jesse for giving me a heads up on this!
