Oh god...

HOLD ON TIGHT TO OUR DATA FACEBOOK!

There is only one place that the government should step in when it comes to data on Facebook, etc, and that's to ensure that they fulfill their promise to guard our privacy aggressively. Forcing them to hand over information about us would be exactly the opposite.

Perhaps it's not ideal to have modes of communication that the police can't touch, but you can't piss your pants and stay warm for long. We can't pressure sites to hand over information when we should be pressuring them to give us total control over our privacy... the whole thing will just collapse.
