It's a good discussion to have: if Facebook has the potential to match the hype, then it can be as detrimental as it could be positive. My take, however, is that Facebook is much more limited in its potential than everyone makes it out to be. Facebook communication is not the same as real world communication. It is low fidelity, degraded, and cheap. My friends on Facebook are not my real friends, and my messages on Facebook will never be as valuable to me as a telephone call, or a real birthday card.
