Facebook Continues Fight Against Application Spam

Facebook has posted a new change for applications. Apparently, applications have previously placed links within mini-feed stories and notifications that promote other applications. Ultimately, this is what some application developers have been using to cross-promote their less active applications. This is just another one of the back channel models that some developers decided to use.

According to the Facebook posting, developers were using a number of methods for deceiving and tricking users into installing other applications. It seems that some people will do anything to get new installations. When the platform launched application spam was a major problem. Additionally, the lack of invitation restrictions led to extremely rapid growth of platform launch partners.

Since the launch, Facebook has imposed a number of restrictions and has slowly clamped down on spammy activities available to application developers. The new announcement by Facebook underlines their continuing dedication to battle spam both within applications and elsewhere on their site.
