I’m getting mightily annoyed with Facebook’s lack of care about Pages. When I first heard about them, I thought they were a great idea, but it turns out there’s absolutely no vetting for a page, and anyone can masquerade as an official company even though they’re just a fan. This means companies and advertisers who wish to operate on Facebook are being discouraged to do so. I looked at 43 facebook pages with over 10,000 fans and deemed that 27 of them were certainly fake, and only 5 appeared to be set up by the game publisher!

It’s much harder to make a case for an organization to go in and have a presence on FB pages if so many fake pages are getting created for organizations.

Can I ask an honest question? Why are people creating fake pages? Are you stupid, or just up to something? Your main accomplishment would be making it hard for users who want to be fans of things to find the real things they want to be fans of.

my personal account got disabled, but Facebook left my page up?! No warning at all.
