Remember poke wars? A similar application called “Social Climber” has just launched. The app is a simple one. Once you add the application you simply invite your friends and then try to be the first to “climb on” them. Once you have climbed on someone, they cannot climb on you for a 24 hour period. After the 24 hour period, the restrictions are gone and it’s back to a free for all. This is extremely similar to the poke wars application but instead of having to check the application on an extremely frequent basis, you only need to check every 24 hours. The about page of the application describes the app as “a true measurement of your popularity.” Instead this shows how much time you have sitting at your computer. If you spend as much time as I do then chances are you will quickly rise to the top. Thus this is not the most accurate portrayal of your popularity. This is another one of those “social games” on Facebook. If you want a way to get your friends involved in another form of poking go grab the Social Climber application.

Nick,
I don't think Social Climber is worth reviewing, given their methods of attempting to acquire users. Over the past few days, they have been spamming Facebook users and applications, by posting new topic and wall posts as reviews of many of the top applications, the majority being totally unrelated to their application.
I wasn't aware of that marketing strategy. If that is the case that that is definitely an inappropriate marketing strategy. I believe that there are ways to effectively utilize wall posts and message boards, but flat out spamming them is not a good strategy. I'm sorry to hear that is the case.

We appreciate the review! As far as Eric's comment, there was an intern who thought it would be beneficial to post some messages on various boards to raise awareness. Obviously, we explained to him that was inappropriate and to be frank, unnecessary. Our growth has been steady without such messages. There has been no “spamming” since that day and our viral growth continues to blossom. Again, thanks for the review!

Nick,
Actually, it is a “a true measurement of your popularity†because if you don't have any friends you can't “climb” anyone.
You have to first invite your friends, once they join you can then climb them. No friends = no climb.
And the top Social Climber on 9/1/07 receives an Apple iPhone.

It's one of the applications on Facebook that I actually use daily and have a motive to spread to my friends. Once you get enough friends on the app., it's really fun and I love seeing what animal I'm turning into everyday.

I thought that the application is unusual and fun. I was not aware of the other Poke application. You are right about sitting in front of the computer to rise to the top but I really only take action in the early morning when I come in sometimes even sober. But I must say that the application's owner honesty in expalining the spamming is refreshing in this day of cop outs! Finally I enjoy the people on my back. They ain't too heavy they are my friends.
