Map the Facebook Landscape

Sami Fouad has made a pretty slick application. With “Network Map” you can view all of the Facebook networks organized on a Google map with a count of their network size. I was surprised to find that Washington, DC had more people on Facebook than Los Angeles, California. Also four of the top ten cities were in Canada. Here are the top ten cities with their Facebook population size:

Toronto, ON (643,951)
London (589,485)
Vancouver, BC (283,726)
Norway (267,079)
New York, NY (249,960)
Chicago, IL (229,974)
Washington, DC (194,503)
Calgary, AB (164,713)
Boston, MA (159,571)
Ottawa, ON (147,994)

The Candian cities are skewed because they have limited choices provincially.
For example, if you live in the province of British Columbia, you are pretty much forced to join the Vancouver regional group. The second choice (of all places) is Kelowna. Kind of baffling that they don’t have Victoria, Vancouver Island, or Nanaimo groups.
I mean, Kelowna? Weird.
I imagine the same thing goes for Ontario/toronto.
