According to recent Compete statistics, Digg has grown 1400% in the past year. Facebook on the other hand has had only 88 percent growth. That’s pretty incredible given that Digg has been historically technology focused. Since expanding beyond technology a year ago, they have experienced phenomenal growth. On the other hand, when you look at the number of registered users that each network has, Digg has over one million whereas Facebook has over 25 million. This is a huge difference. Additionally, Facebook is expected to quadruple their user base in the next year. Bottom line: Digg’s community will never compare to Facebook’s. Facebook is much more stickier and appeals to a broader base. Digg still manages to drive some serious traffic though given that they had over 22 million unique visitors last month alone. One has to wonder what Digg’s exit strategy is at this point given that they are starting to mature.
